I used to burn all my stuff to DVD, but since Xbox360 came out and I set up media center I dont bother any more. So much easier just to stream :P

I have (All internal):

2 X 250GB drives in a mirror for my OS and important stuff like photos

1 X 1TB Drive - Movies / music

1 X 2TB Drive - Movies / Games

1 X 250GB Drive - Temporary drive for downloads & unsorted stuff

I store my stuff on both hard rives and discs

I have a blu-ray burner so I can store up to 25GB on a single disc, but I also store stuff on DVDs

I also have about 10 external hard drives to store stuff on

I have 1 hdd 1TB and another one 500gb. its enough.

I also use 1gb memory stick and 4gb memory stick. I also have 320gb external HDD, and for very important files I use CD (only 1-2 CDs which I keep in different places in case something happens) and always make backups of the important files on both hard drives etc.

so....my answer : Hard disk.

I use externals.

For stuff I don't use as much, I turn that external off so it has a lesser chance of breaking, etc.

For common files I access a lot I keep the external HDD always spinning.

Storage for me is a big issue as I love to collect my movies rather than download and delete. so I have 8TB of internal drives in 2TB form-factor,with an additional 2 1TB externals. i have my pc hooked up to my western digital live media player through which i stream the movies to my 47 LG HDTV with 7.1 surround sound system for my viewing and audio pleasure.

In all its a relatively cheap yet highly efficient setup, that works well.

HDs is the only way to go. Optical media is so slow and so small.
