Bethesda had a “nice” surprise for its fans today. The studio finally released its tepid and rather uninteresting patch for Fallout 4. The update had an unexpected result. The mods from the community were no longer working.

Bethesda is usually pretty friendly with the modding community, mostly by not getting in their way. It’s true that the tools used by modders need to be upgraded from time to time to accommodate the new executable, but that’s pretty much it.

The first official patch pushed by Bethesda brought a number of fixes, but the community quickly found out that the new launcher doesn’t load the mods. This is not good news, but fortunately, a solution has been quickly published on the official Nexus forums.

A user published a few simple steps that need to be taken. It’s worth noting that the Nexus Mod Manager needs to be installed for this to work. Users will have to open the Nexus Mod Manager, launch the game and wait with the launcher opened, re-enable the mods using Nexus Mod Manager, and hit play.

It’s no longer possible to enable them with other tools or from the INI files. Since this happened with the first patch, users should be getting ready to see this happening every time. A good solution would be to enable the workshop support for Fallout 4, but the developers don’t seem to be in a hurry to do that.
