Michael B. Jordan’s Black Panther villain Erik Killmonger won’t be forgotten by audiences any time soon, but there might be a new bad guy in town. A recent rumor states that Solo: A Star Wars Story actor Donald Glover is currently being considered for an antagonistic role in the Black Panther sequel.

The report, which comes from metro.co.uk, states that Black Panther director and co-writer Ryan Coogler is currently in the process of creating characters and broaching informal casting talks for the sequel film. If true, it should come as no surprise that Coogler is considering Glover, whose star burns brightly right now.

Glover plays a young Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star War Story, which releases this weekend. He is also the creator and star of the FX series Atlanta, about two brothers struggling to make it in the rap scene. As a musician, Glover is also known as Childish Gambino. His recent single, “This is America,” and its accompanying music video, present a surrealist look at racial injustice in the United States.

There are some legitimate reasons to doubt the veracity of the rumor, though. The source that claimed Glover was being considered for the villain role in Black Panther 2 also alluded to the potential return of Jordan’s Killmonger, who died at the end of the first movie. There’s always the possibility that Killmonger could return as a sprit bound to the Wakandan afterlife, the Djalia, but it is unlikely he would return as the sequel’s primary villain.

Disney denied the rumor when CBR reached out for comment.
