Microsoft Refuses to Delay Crackdown 3 Again

Any further Crackdown 3 delays will come as a surprise to many - including Microsoft, who reportedly won't tolerate any more pushing back of the game's release. Crackdown 3 has already been delayed several times, and its announcement at Gamescom in 2015 seems like a distant memory now.

Crackdown 3 was supposed to be a blockbuster announcement when it was unveiled three years ago, but in practice, the spectre of the game has been more of a sword hanging over the head of Microsoft rather than something beautiful just over the horizon. Crackdown 3 was initially met with an apathetic response from many Xbox One owners, and its delays haven't helped it gain any traction since. Whether that's because Crackdown was something of a hidden gem on the Xbox 360 - or the fact it's been eight years since Crackdown 2 - matters little, however, if Crackdown 3 can't somehow right the ship and deliver a memorable gaming experience.

According to a report by Eurogamer, Microsoft is well aware of the fact that Crackdown 3's delay have gone on long enough. The industry giant is reportedly done waiting for a finished product, and it's increasingly likely that developer Sumo Digital will finally deliver a complete product in February 2019.
 

The rest of the report doesn't paint much of a pretty picture either. It looks likely that Microsoft is done delaying the game because those involved are keenly aware that no matter how much time and money continues to be poured into the title, it'll end up "a disappointment of a release." This, coupled with the fact that Crackdown 3's repeated delays have resulted in a shuffling of developers and other key staff, suggests that the final game could end up being disjointed, and not offer players a cohesive, fully-formed gameplay experience.

Of course, there's usually a core reason for games like Crackdown 3 getting delayed so heavily. According to the report, those close to the game have anonymously stated that the game's promised cloud-based multiplayer has been a huge factor in the delays, and three years on, nobody has gotten a glimpse of what Crackdown 3's multiplayer is actually going to look like. Despite this, it appears fans will soon be done waiting for Crackdown 3, and if that's the case, they should be getting a better look at what the finished product will look like in the near future. Whether it disappoints or not, it sounds like those involved with its development and publishing will all be glad to put the project behind them.
