LOS ANGELES—When the guy known as LiL D first emailed BangBros about doing porn he wasn’t expecting to hear from anyone. “I sent them my pictures and they hit me back and I ain't gonna lie, I thought it was fake,” LiL D jokes. “They were like, ‘Hello, send your ID for verification of your age.’ I was like, ‘What? Who is this, yo?’ And I sent it anyway. Then they just hit me back and said they wanted to send me out to Miami for an audition to see how I did. I thought, ‘This is crazy right now, yo.’” The 18-year-old high school senior traveled from his home in North Carolina to South Florida in early March, trying out for BangBros in sex scenes with Julz Gotti and Aidra Fox. “I rocked it,” he says. BangBros liked what they saw, too, and not long after the heavyweight studio signed him to an exclusive deal. “My contract is for six months and they have the option to re-sign me,” LiL D tells AVN. “I’m still in school right now. The way we’re working on it is every other week I’m flying out to Cali, Vegas or Miami so I can shoot Saturday and Sunday. I graduate June 8th and then once I graduate I can be shooting every week.” BangBros Executive Producer Colin Rae, who discovered Juan El Caballo Loco in 2017 and helped guide him to the 2018 AVN Award for Best Male Newcomer, says he sees similar promise with LiL D. ”What we liked most about LiL D was his attitude, charisma, and energy,” Rae tells AVN. “He's a very smart kid with the looks of an R&B singer. BangBros thinks he has the potential to be the next big star in adult entertainment. “We believe he has the right personality to appeal to a wide audience." LiL D estimates he’s done eight sex scenes so far—none of which have been released but are coming soon. “Everyone at my school knows. My teachers know and I didn’t even tell them,” LiL D says. “I don’t care what anybody’s saying. I ain’t even worried about all that.” The 5-foot-8, 150-pound performer, who was born in Harlem, says he watched his share of porn before breaking into the business. “I would just go on Pornhub and see if I can find a busty-ass Latina, and if I couldn’t find one there I’d go to BangBros. That’s how I would get it done,” LiL D says. “That’s my go-to; I love Latinas.” LiL D says even though he recognizes some of his co-stars when he arrives on set from his numerous late nights watching porn, he keeps his cool. “I’m not all thirsty when I meet them. I give them space. I already know we gonna work together. I just say 'what’s up' and go outside and chill and wait until it’s time to do the scene,” he explains. The former rugby and football player admits during those two tryout scenes he was more interested in earning a paycheck—securing an exclusive performance contract was not even a thought. “I wanted the money,” he recalls. “I had mixed emotions. Everything was happening all at once. I didn’t know what to expect. I had a little butterflies but I was mostly excited. I wanted to show them what I could do.” LiL D actually shot a homemade hardcore video with an ex-girlfriend before porn. “I look alright,” he says. “I get girls. The ex-girlfriend and me, we had made a video and I thought maybe I could be a porn star one day.” His next shoot is scheduled for May 5 in Los Angeles. “My favorite shoot so far gotta be Adriana Maya or Richelle Ryan—those scenes were lit,” says LiL D, who has also worked with Alycia Starr, Alura Jenson and Ariella Ferrera, among a handful of others. Richelle Ryan tells AVN she bonded with LiL D before their scene in Vegas, when they were discussing some changes they wanted to make with the script. The scenario called for Ryan to act like she was LiL D’s adopted mother making him dinner. “He was really cool,” Ryan says. “What was funny is I had that shoot booked for a month and a half. Then that day on set I found out he’s still in high school and he was on Spring Break, so that’s why it was booked so far in advance. “For the past couple years I’ve been shooting a lot of MILF scenes. I’m only 32, but in porn you could be 25 and play a MILF. But I’ve been having sex with young guys off camera. I recently took a 23-year-old guy’s virginity. I kind of have a way with the young guys.” No argument from LiL D, who says he now would love to work with Moriah Mills and Julie Kay if the stars align. “Moriah Mills, that’s my baby right there,” he says. “I was literally watching her videos two weeks before I went to audition and she already knows I want to do a scene with her. It’s up to the producers at BangBros to get that done. Julie Kay, she’s beautiful. She ain’t Latina but I like the [dreadlocks].” When LiL D isn’t on set or doing homework, he likes to “chill and listen to music” such as G Herbo, A$AP Rocky, Meek Mill, Migos, Tee Grizzley and Drake. He says he wanted to use “G Silky” for his stage name but BangBros steered him toward LiL D. “They gonna remember it,” LiL D says. BangBros producer Colin Rae agrees. ”BangBros has several new projects in store for 2018 and believes LiL D is only the tipping point of what fans can expect from us this year,” Rae says.

LOS ANGELES—The 2018 AVN Awards Show took place back in January, but the live event is just one part of the entertainment experience known around the world as the gold standard of industry award shows. There’s also the cable broadcast of the annual event, which is packed with extras not seen by the live audience. Hemp Bombs—and parent company Global Widget LLC—has been providing CBD-based products to convenience stores and gas stations, but is already working to develop relationships with adult retailers and distributors to bring their products to a wider audience. “CBD products can be another source of revenue for adult stores,” Gillen said. “Adult retailers always need new products, and these are a perfect accessory if they are already carrying smoke items and the like.” CBD products are a natural fit for adult boutiques, Gillen noted, because CBD is often used as a calming and relaxing supplement. “And there is a range of people using CBD products,” he said. “Older consumers might be using it for pain relief, while younger customers might enjoy vaping it for its calming abilities. Based on our customer feedback, it’s hard to say there is only one demographic interested in and using CBD products.” Gillen admitted there will be those who are skeptical of the products—and initially, he and the rest of his staff felt the same. He began using CBD products for anxiety issues and noticed an improvement; now, he said, Hemp Bombs regularly receives calls and emails from customers extolling its virtues. Hemp Bombs sources its CBD from industrial hemp plants. Hemp plants do not contain THC, so the CBD from these plants can be used in products that can in turn be shipped and distributed nationally. HOLLYWOOD, Calif.—Since roughly the beginning of the year, a small segment of tech-savvy internet pranksters have managed to adapt artificial intelligence (AI) programs to take the faces of mainstream movie stars and other personalities and map them onto the faces of porn stars having sex—and pretty much no one, not Hollywood nor porn, has been very happy about it. And the charges have flown back and forth, with each side blaming the other for the fakery, and with the performers in both camps (though mostly Hollywood's) decrying the reputation-smearing that has inevitably followed from the fake porn images. So it's not terribly surprising that SAG-AFTRA, the mainstream performers' union, would issue a statement decrying deepfakery. "We are closely watching the development of so-called deepfakes," wrote SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris in the latest quarterly issue of the union’s official magazine. "This artificial intelligence tool has the ability to steal our images and superimpose them onto another person’s body in potentially unpleasant and inappropriate digital forms. SAG-AFTRA is focused on these emerging processes and fighting back when the technology infringes on our members’ rights." Among those rights, in California and some other states, is the "right of publicity," under which celebrities may sue those who use the stars' images, words and other attributes without permission—and it's that right that the union will be employing to attempt to keep deepfakes out of the internet's mainstream. "We want to protect our members from the unauthorized use of their persona, including their digital replica, in advertisements, products, merchandise, company branding, fake news, movies, video games, or pornography," the SAG-AFTRA editorial continued. "And we want to see these protections for both living and deceased individuals. Neither New York nor Louisiana have post-mortem rights of publicity, despite their large entertainer populations. The right of publicity is a property asset, designed to protect the livelihood of our members from misappropriation and theft, and it should be exclusively or non-exclusively licensed or passed down to heirs, much like a copyright. Where a content creator misappropriates a living or deceased individual for commercialized fake news or fake porn, or in expressive works depicting the individual performing the activity for which they are known, e.g. delivering the news or performing fictional characters, we believe explicit protections should be in place. We also support new judicial theories to extend protections to individuals and their heirs who are victimized in fake porn videos." Of particular concern, especially in the current political environment, is the possibility that the faces of well-known mainstream newscasters or politicians may be pasted onto the bodies of others to make it seem as if they are calling for political actions to be taken, or "reporting" on such actions, when in fact no such statements were made by the actual personalities. In other words, it would be the ultimate in "fake news." "Recent advances in AI have made it easier than ever to put words in someone's mouth or place a person in unflattering situations," noted Engadget reporter Jessica Conditt. "Oscar-winning writer, actor and director Jordan Peele made a video with Buzzfeed this week showcasing how far this kind of technology has come: He made it appear as if former President Barack Obama called President Donald Trump 'a total and complete dipshit.'" The union has called for legislation to be passed to make such fakery illegal. And while several adult sites have promised to weed deepfakes from their online libraries, Conditt stated that, "just this week a simple search pulled up more than 100 videos featuring face-swapped celebrities." Sending out warnings is supposed to reduce the numbers of people using BitTorrent to obtain movies, TV shows and music without paying. It's far from clear how much difference they make but receiving one can't be the best of experiences for recipients. Some people, however, are receiving plenty of them yet still not changing their behavior. So just how many is enough? For the past several years, copyright holders in the US and Europe have been trying to reach out to file-sharers in an effort to change their habits. Whether via high-profile publicity lawsuits or a simple email, it’s hoped that by letting people know they aren’t anonymous, they’ll stop pirating and buy more content instead. Traditionally, most ISPs haven’t been that keen on passing infringement notices on. However, the BMG v Cox lawsuit seems to have made a big difference, with a growing number of ISPs now visibly warning their users that they operate a repeat infringer policy. But perhaps the big question is how seriously users take these warnings because – let’s face it – that’s the entire point of their existence. There can be little doubt that a few recipients will be scurrying away at the slightest hint of trouble, intimidated by the mere suggestion that they’re being watched. Indeed, a father in the UK – who received a warning last year as part of the Get it Right From a Genuine Site campaign – confidently and forcefully assured TF that there would be no more illegal file-sharing taking place on his ten-year-old son’s computer again – ever. In France, where the HADOPI anti-piracy scheme received much publicity, people receiving an initial notice are most unlikely to receive additional ones in future. A December 2017 report indicated that of nine million first warning notices sent to alleged pirates since 2012, ‘just’ 800,000 received a follow-up warning on top. The suggestion is that people either stop their piracy after getting a notice or two, or choose to “go dark” instead, using streaming sites for example or perhaps torrenting behind a decent VPN. But for some people, the message simply doesn’t sink in early on. A post on Reddit this week by a TWC Spectrum customer revealed that despite a wealth of readily available information (including masses in the specialist subreddit where the post was made), even several warnings fail to have an effect. “Was just hit with my 5th copyright violation. They halted my internet and all,” the self-confessed pirate wrote. There are at least three important things to note from this opening sentence. Firstly, the first four warnings did nothing to change the user’s piracy habits. Secondly, Spectrum presumably had enough at five warnings and kicked in a repeat-infringer suspension, presumably to avoid the same fate as Cox in the BMG case. Third, the account suspension seems to have changed the game. Notably, rather than some huge blockbuster movie, that fifth warning came due to something rather less prominent. “Thought I could sneak in a random episode of Rosanne. The new one that aired LOL. That fast. Under 24 hours I got shut off. Which makes me feel like [ISPs] do monitor your traffic and its not just the people sending them notices,” the post read. Again, some interesting points here. Any content can be monitored by rightsholders but if it’s popular in the US then a warning delivered via an ISP seems to be more likely than elsewhere. However, the misconception that the monitoring is done by ISPs persists, despite that not being the case. ISPs do not monitor users’ file-sharing activity, anti-piracy companies do. They can grab an IP address the second someone enters a torrent swarm, or even connects to a tracker. It happens in an instant, at a time of their choosing. Quickly jumping in and out of a torrent is no guarantee and the fallacy of not getting caught due to a failure to seed is just that – a fallacy. But perhaps the most important thing is that after five warnings and a disconnection, the Reddit user decided to take action. Sadly for the people behind Rosanne, it’s not exactly the reaction they’d have hoped for. “I do not want to push it but I am curious to what happens 6th time, and if I would even be safe behind a VPN,” he wrote. “Just want to learn how to use a VPN and Sonarr and have a guilt free stress free torrent watching.” Of course, there was no shortage of advice. “If you have gotten 5 notices, you really should of learnt [sic] how to use a VPN before now,” one poster noted, perhaps inevitably. But curiously, or perhaps obviously given the number of previous warnings, the fifth warning didn’t come as a surprise to the user. “I knew they were going to hit me for it. I just didn’t think a 195mb file would do it. They were getting me for Disney movies in the past,” he added. So how do you grab the attention of a persistent infringer like this? Five warnings and a suspension apparently. But clearly, not even that is a guarantee of success. Perhaps this is why most ‘strike’ schemes tend to give up on people who can’t be rehabilitated.

LONDON — French adult content producer Marc Dorcel has issued a plea for industry stakeholders to participate in a public consultation on the U.K.’s upcoming age-verification system for adult content. The consultation period closes on Monday. The studio said the following about participation in the BBFC public consultation: The time of a wild internet where everyone could get immediate and open access to porn seems to be over as many governments are looking for concrete solutions to control it. U.K. is the first one to have voted a law regarding this subject and who will apply a total blockage on porn websites which do not age verify and protect minors. Australian, Polish and French authorities are also looking very closely into this issue and are interested in the system that will be elected in the U.K. BBFC is the organization which will define and manage the operation. In a few weeks, the BBFC will deliver the government its age-verification guidance in order to define and detail how age-verification should comply with this new law. BBFC wants to be pragmatic and is concerned about how end users and website owners will be able to enact this measure. The organization has launched an open consultation in order to collect the public and concerned professionals’ opinion regarding this matter here. As a matter of fact, age-verification guideline involves a major challenge for the whole industry: age-verification processor cannot be considered neither as a gateway nor a toll. Moreover, it cannot be an instrument to gather internet users’ data or hijack traffic. Marc Dorcel has existed since 1979 and operates on numerous platforms — TV, mobile, press, web networks. We are used to regulation authorities. According to our point of view, the two main requirements to define an independent age-verification system that would not serve specific corporate interests are: 1st requirement — neither an authenticated adult, nor his data should belong to any processor; 2nd requirement — processor systems should freely be chosen because of their efficiency and not because of their dominant position. We are also thinking that our industry should have two requests for the BBFC to insure a system which do not create dependency: Any age-verification processor scope should be limited to a verification task without a user-registration system. As a consequence, processors could not get benefits on any data user or traffic control, customers’ verified age would independently be stored by each website or website network and users would have to age verify for any new website or network. If the BBFC allows any age-verification processor to control a visitor data base and to manage login and password, they should commit to share the 18+ login/password to the other certified processors. As a consequence, users would only have one age verification enrollment on their first visit of a website, users would be able to log in with the same login/password on any age verification system to prove their age, and verified adults would not belong to any processor to avoid any dependency. In those cases, we believe that an age-verification solution will act like a MPSP (multiple payment service provider) which processes client payments but where customers do not belong to payment processors, but to the website and where credit card numbers can be used by any processor. We believe that any adult company concerned with the future of our business should take part in this consultation, whatever his point of view or worries are. It is our responsibility to take our fate into our own hands.
