A hilarious fan video depicts Clifford the Big Red Dog as a kaiju in the vein of a Toho Godzilla movie. Norman Bridwell’s beloved Scholastic character made his debut in 1963, and now, after nearly 60 years, the giant canine is finally making his way to the big screen in a live-action film, Clifford the Big Red Dog. Earlier this week, Paramount released the family-friendly movie’s first full trailer. Clifford the Big Red Dog follows Emily Elizabeth, a young girl who meets a mysterious man (John Cleese) named Mr. Bridwell—a Vonnegut-esque stand-in for the Clifford books’ original author. Bridwell tells Emily that Clifford will mature based upon how much she loves him; naturally, the love of Emily and her family results in the pint-sized puppy growing ten feet tall and causing hi-jinks all around New York City. As director Walt Becker has stated, Clifford is a CGI character made to look like a photorealistic version of a big red dog. In the books, Clifford’s size varies depending upon the story and is sometimes as big as three stories tall. The creative team’s efforts to avoid making him feel like kaiju haven’t stopped the internet from making jokes. Unlike the King of the Monster’s exploits in Legendary’s MonsterVerse, Godzilla was very much an enemy to humanity in his earlier cinematic outings. At one point, the scarlet pet wrecks inflatable balls with people inside—not exactly the most comforting of sights. While McMuscles’ mashup certainly doesn’t help, Clifford’s havoc pales in comparison to Godzilla’s battle against the ruler of Skull Island in the MonsterVerse’s biggest film to date, Godzilla vs Kong. A Clifford the Big Red Dog film was first announced back in 2012 at Universal before making its way to Paramount. Becker has been working with Scholastic since 2017 in an attempt to stay true to the original intent of creator Bridwell. As was the case with Paddington, looks can often be deceiving. Hopefully, Clifford doesn’t frighten audiences when he makes his way to theaters on September 17. Even if he does, the MonsterVerse always leaves room for more titans.

Elizabeth Banks is off to the Emerald Isle to film Cocaine Bear, a movie based on the true story of a black bear who died of a drug overdose way out in the Appalachian mountains. The actress, comedian, director, writer, and producer semi-recently directed a Charlie's Angels remake and served as an executive producer on TV shows including Shrill and DC Super Hero High. Although Banks got her start in comedy, the multitalented entertainer has expanded her creative scope with extensive roles and credits in action movies like The Hunger Games and Power Rangers. It was announced in March that Banks will direct and produce a film inspired by a 1985 news story about a bear who happened upon a lethal stash of coke in the wilds of Georgia's Chattahoochee National Forest. The bear died shortly after consuming some of the cocaine, but the rest of the drugs mysteriously disappeared before he was found. The suspect dealings leading up to and following the bear's death are rife with material for a crime thriller. The story's central (human) figure is Andrew Carter Thornton, a former police officer who began smuggling cocaine, a situation that would ultimately lead to his death. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who previously worked with Banks on The Lego Movie, will produce. The film will be distributed by Universal Pictures. Banks doesn't reveal whether the movie will film any scenes in Tennessee or Kentucky, where the story also travels. Although the director has relocated to film in Ireland, little information has been made available about what or who exactly will be filming there. The "cocaine bear" story is publicly known, but details about the script's focus or a synopsis haven't yet been shared. Neither have any cast members have been announced, nor has it been clarified whether Banks herself will act in the film. Regardless, it's exciting that production appears to be well underway for Cocaine Bear. As for what we do know, Jimmy Warden (The Babysitter: Killer Queen, The Roommate) adapted the story into a script, which will be served by Warden's experience melding comedy and horror (or, in this case, thriller). The movie has been pitched as a "character-driven thriller," but it's unclear what tone the film will take. Given Banks' comedic sensibility and the internet's collective amusement toward the subject matter, an element of dark comedy would be appropriate. On the other hand, the story itself has all the makings of a tragic narcotics thriller, and it looks like Warden and Banks plan to focus on the drama of Thornton's downfall.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who plays Ravonna Renslayer in Loki, responded to the character's possible Kang the Conqueror connection. Over the series' first four episodes, Ravonna has quietly emerged as one of Loki's villains thanks to her role in the Time Variance Authority. Her relationship with Owen Wilson's Mobius M. Mobius crumbled in the fourth episode when he found out that the TVA is staffed with Variants who have been kidnapped from their lives on the Sacred Timeline. In response to his discovery, Renslayer "prunes" Mobius, seemingly sealing his fate. It is also revealed in Loki episode 4 that Ravonna took Sylvie from Asgard when she was younger due to an unseen Nexus event caused by the Loki Variant. Ravonna also hid a major secret - the Time-Keepers aren't real. Instead, they are androids and false figureheads of the TVA. As the incidences keep stacking up, it's becoming clearer that Ravonna is more evil than she was initially portrayed as and her connection to one future MCU villain could explain that. Initially, Ravonna sacrifices herself to save Kang, but their love becomes more complicated once he betrays her. How this could play out in the MCU remains a mystery, but one thing is clear - Kang is coming in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and with such an obvious connection, audiences can't help but wonder how he could factor into Disney+'s current series. The actor who will play the villain, Jonathan Majors, has denied rumors he will appear as Kang in Loki, but he is likely sworn to secrecy and wouldn't be able to reveal something like that anyway. With only two episodes left, though, it seems like Majors may be telling the truth. There's a lot of ground left to cover in Loki, including unveiling who, exactly, is running the Time Variance Authority. Still, it seems clear that the presence of Ravonna Renslayer isn't an accident and whether it's indirect or not, the TVA's most fearsome judge is teasing Kang the Conqueror's arrival one way or another.

Ryan Reynolds officially joined TikTok and his first post is a hilarious throwback to an iconic scene from his 2005 film Just Friends. The Christmas romantic comedy featured Reynolds as Chris Brander, a formerly obese high school student who became a successful record producer as an adult. He returns to his hometown during the holidays and tries to woo his best friend and childhood crush. Reynolds starred alongside rom-com veterans Amy Smart, Anna Faris, and Chris Klein. Just Friends was a surprise box office hit, earning more than $50 million upon its release. The feel-good film showcased Reynolds' natural talent for comedy and jumpstarted his career as a bankable rom-com leading man. The movie opened with the actor wearing a fat suit for his character, lip-synching to the song "I Swear" by the 90's boyband All-4-One while looking in the mirror. The scene is still so funny to watch today, 16 years after the movie first premiered. The pair recently announced that TikTok has sponsored their new soccer team, which explains why the actor finally decided to create an account on the social media platform. Reynolds may be new to TikTok, but the actor isn't afraid to make fun of himself (and others) on social media. The actor's sense of humor certainly provides comic relief amid all the haters and trolls on the internet. Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has offered to help cover the costs after some raccoons damaged a woman’s home. Gunn’s work on the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise made a group of lesser-known, comic book misfits some of the most entertaining characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Of all the Guardians, Gunn has spoken many times about how connected he feels to Rocket Raccoon—the furry kleptomaniac with an affinity for prosthetics. When audiences first meet Rocket and his partner Groot, the pair have committed to a life traveling the galaxy, committing crimes, and collecting bounties. It’s the latter that leads to Rocket meeting Star-Lord, being arrested by the Nova Corps and sent to Kyln, and, ultimately, finding the family he never thought he needed in the Guardians. However, when he’s not saving the universe in the Guardians of the Galaxy films, Avengers: Infinity War, or Avengers: Endgame, the cybernetically-enhanced raccoon still finds time to cause mischief stealing expensive and often obscure things.

Sung Kang opens up about the Justice for Han movement and says that said justice has yet to be delivered for the character despite his F9 return. The latest chapter of the Fast & Furious franchise sees Dominic Toretto and his family forced to go up against Charlize Theron's cyberterrorist Cipher once again after her escape during the climax of The Fate of the Furious. Things get personal for Dom, however, as Cipher is working with John Cena's Jakob Toretto, Dom's estranged brother and master thief and assassin. F9 saw the return of Justin Lin to the director's chair for the first time since 2013's Fast & Furious 6 but also marked his first time helping write the script. Lin's return helped open the door for Kang to come back to the fold as fan-favorite character Han, whom he originally helped create in with his 2002 breakout hit drama Better Luck Tomorrow. Vieweers had been calling for justice to be delivered for the character as the arbiter of his demise, Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw, shifted from antagonist to protagonist with Fate and spin-off Hobbs & Shaw and while Lin's decision to come back was inspired by the movement, it sounds like the effort isn't over. For those unfamiliar or uninterested in the Fast & Furious franchise, it may have come as a surprise to some to learn that the first actress to portray Wonder Woman in a film found her first international stardom with the Vin Diesel-fronted series. But for those who have been with it across all ten films, the death of Gal Gadot's Gisele is still one that pulls at some heartstrings, namely for the connection she and Han shared and it acting as a catalyst to send Han back to Tokyo and — initially — his death. Given what seemed like a pretty definitive end for Han in Tokyo Drift/Furious 7, it certainly seems possible Gisele could return to the story, should Gadot have the time and interest to do so. Even if she doesn't, though, Kang's words regarding the Justice for Han movement ring strong, as the character's return certainly isn't enough. What matters is how Lin and the creative team continue Han's story past F9: The Fast Saga and resolve the various emotional conflicts for the character in the final two mainline installments. Only time will tell if Han will get the justice he rightfully deserves in a way that satisfies fans of both his and Deckard.

Ryan Reynolds reveals that he teared up watching fan-reactions to Avengers: Endgame. It's been more than two years since the MCU's Infinity Saga wrapped up with Endgame. The film picked up after the Avengers' devastating loss to Thanos in Infinity War, featuring the team at their lowest point. It took them five years to figure out a way to reverse the snap that wiped out half of life in the universe, and the mission came with personal sacrifices. Iron Man and Black Widow died for the cause, but it was worth it as the Mad Titan and his minions were ultimately defeated. Endgame was a movie years in the making, as Marvel spent over a decade building up to the Infinity Saga's culminating event. Since the film was billed as the finale for this era of the MCU's history, the creative team made sure to include several major moments that paid off character arcs and storylines audiences followed for years. Viewers were delighted to see these scenes play out on the big screen, as evidenced by the number of fan reaction videos taken in theaters after Endgame opened. Aside from its thrilling adventures, it had very strong emotional beats evoking strong reactions from fans. As the world starts to re-open, fans are slowly going back to watching movies in theaters. Fast & Furious 9 has just a decent opening weekend. Marvel Studios, on the other hand, has a string of films slated to release this year starting with Black Widow. Reynolds' emotional response watching people's reaction to Avengers: Endgame is a reminder of the communal experience of going to cinemas is — something that everyone sorely missed in the last year.

John Cena explains the very specific thing he had to do to keep his F9 role a secret during production. At long last, Fast & Furious 9 has made its way out into the world. The latest installment of the high-octane franchise was supposed to debut last year, but the coronavirus pandemic pushed it to 2021. After rolling out in select international markets over the past few weeks, F9 made its North American debut this weekend, and it is poised to break records for the pandemic-era box office. F9 features the returns of Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his crew as they face off against a new threat. In keeping with the franchise's usual themes of family, their biggest enemy this time is Dom's estranged brother Jakob (Cena). The WWE star joined F9's cast in 2019, but his character wasn't revealed until the first trailer arrived in early 2020. Fans were stunned to learn Cena would be playing another Toretto, particularly since Dom never acknowledged having a brother. F9 explores their family history and just why they're estranged. The costumes are the costumes and they can be whatever you needed it to be, but if there was ever a candid with a coffee in my hand and the cross, that's a dead giveaway. "It's amazing that that one piece of jewellery has so much energy and gravity around it. That was the one thing I put on before they said roll and as soon as they said cut, I would take it off, and that was how we kept everything under wraps." It helps that, as Cena pointed out, the costumes themselves don't reveal much. However, if someone spotted him on set with that cross around his neck, it would've been game over. Fast & Furious fans know the significance of that necklace, and they would've been alight with theories. Instead, everyone was taken by surprise with the first F9 trailer arrived, which also confirmed the return of Sung Kang's Han Lue. Cena clearly did a good job with monitoring his cross-wearing. There are two more movies slated to bring the Fast & Furious franchise to a close, and Cena has stated he would happily return for them. Plot details for Fast & Furious 10 and 11 are still being kept under wraps, so it remains to be seen if he actually will. That depends entirely on the story director Justin Lin and Diesel have come up with, as well as Jakob's fate at the end of F9 (no spoilers here). Still, if F9 proves to be the only franchise outing Cena gets, at least he gave it his all and protected the surprise of his character's identity.

Dave Bautista says he wants to play a Klingon in Star Trek. Bautista began his entertainment career as a pro wrestler before making the transition into movies. His biggest break in film came when he played the super-literal Drax the Destroyer in James Gunn’s Marvel movie Guardians of the Galaxy. Everyone loved Bautista as Drax in the wacky Guardians and its follow-up Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 but the actor wasn’t content to just be known as the big literal-minded gray alien guy from the MCU. Bautista also showed he could do thoughtful and serious sci-fi, playing Sapper Morton in Blade Runner 2049. He then flashed his comedy chops alongside Kumail Nanjiani in the buddy movie Stuber. In My Spy, he proved his ability to do an Arnold Schwarzenegger-like turn in a family-friendly vehicle. Bautista’s upcoming slate will expand his range even more, as he’s set to appear in everything from Dune to Knives Out 2 to season 2 of Apple TV’s series See. Star Trek: Picard meanwhile has focused on the Borg and the Romulans, and in season 2 will bring in the popular TNG character Q – with no sign of famous TNG Klingon Worf. Then there’s the planned throwback show Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which could bring in classic Klingon action as it depicts the adventures of the pre-Kirk Enterprise. Then of course there’s the movie side of the Star Trek franchise equation. As of now, all anyone knows is that Paramount has plans for a new Star Trek movie and has set aside a June 9, 2023 release date for the project. It’s not known if the cast of J.J. Abrams’ Trek movies will return for this new film. It’s also not known if anything will ever be done with Quentin Tarantino’s Kirk-centric Trek story ideas. Perhaps when Star Trek is ready to return to movie screens, there will be need for someone to play a Klingon. If that’s the case, Bautista is ready to put on any kind of facial prosthetics necessary, pick up a bat'leth and live his dream of becoming a Klingon warrior. There’s no doubt Bautista has the physicality to be a Klingon, and it’s obvious he has the passion. But it remains to be seen if anything will ever come of Bautista fancasting himself in Star Trek.

Pixar just released new concept art for their upcoming feature film, Turning Red. The film will be directed by Domee Shi, whose Pixar short Bao won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, as well as be produced by Lindsey Collins, who co-produced Pixar's WALL•E. Turning Red is expected to release in Spring 2022. The animation studio, known for hits like The Incredibles, Toy Story, and Finding Nemo, hasn't released a ton of information for the movie and has only released a short teaser trailer for Turning Red. The story surrounds Mei Lee, a 13-year-old girl struggling to balance being a good daughter and being adventurous. However, whereas most kids blush when they get too excited, Mei Lee transforms into a massive red panda. Between her relationship with her mother, her red panda condition, and all the typical perils of growing up, Mei Lee struggles to find her place as a normal kid. In the drawing, Mei Lee walks through the halls of her school in red panda form, all eyes glued to her while she shies away in embarrassment. Her stretched backpack is hanging on for dear life as a student pokes at her tail in awe, seemingly unused to seeing Mei Lee like this. After Soul and Luca were focused on Disney+ streaming releases rather than theatrical ones due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was announced that Turning Red now hopes to be a theatrical release. If Turning Red manages to pull it off, it would be the first Pixar film to release theatrically since Onward did exactly two years prior in March 2020. Given the lower critical receptions of Pixar's most recent films (with Metacritic scores of 61 for Onward and 71 for Luca, compared to 94 for Inside Out and 92 for Toy Story 3), many fans hope Turning Red can be a course correction for a studio that's become recognized as the gold standard of computer animation. During the festival, Shi talked about how this film, like her short Bao, largely has to do with her own relationship with her mother. Given Pixar's fractured parent-child relationships like in Finding Nemo, Coco, and Ratatouille, Turning Red promises to be yet another addition to the animated studio's collection of laughs and lessons. With this concept art and hopefully a full trailer in the not-too-distant future, fans can get a better look at how Shi's talent on Bao has translated to a full-length feature.
