Red Bull and Renault continue verbal war as Christian Horner weighs in

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has criticised Renault for letting down its own staff during the 2018 Formula One season in the latest public barb at their former engine supplier.

The Milton Keynes-based team split from Renault after a decade-long association at the end of this season in favour of a switch to Honda power units from 2019 after being impressed with how Toro Rosso had done with the same engine this year.

The Renault engine proved terribly unreliable this year, with Daniel Ricciardo alone suffering eight DNFs, and Horner insisted it was due to a “lack of commitment” from the French manufacturer.

"Credit where credit is due," Horner told Motorsport.com. "In Mexico we were provided with an engine that was capable of winning, as we were in Austria and China.

"We were lucky in Monaco, even without an MGU-K. Any other circuit and we would have been stuffed.

"I have total admiration for the Renault guys in the garage that are working their socks off, week in, week out.

"But I think they've ultimately been let down by the main house's lack of commitment to development and reliability."

Horner also bemoaned the lack of availability of spare parts for the engine as well.
