  1. 1. Where do you put all dat sweet data (The majority of it)

    • On a local daily driver computer (Internal storage)
      6
    • On a local system. (I just keep adding int and attaching ext drives as needed)
      6
    • On an out of the box NAS (Synology,QNAP...etc)
      2
    • On a custom built NAS (Freenas, unRAID...etc)
      9
    • Its all in the cloud
      2
    • Somewhere else...

I started out small. A single workstation with a couple HDDs all internal. At some point I started jamming disks into the 5.25 bays on their side and using sticky tack (That blue stuff you use to hold up posters to walls without ruining either) to hold em in place. This was one of those small mid sized towers I got free from work. It was running PS3 Media server and strangely enough ran sitting next to the TV and PS3. (days of ignorance)

Anyway by the end it was holding about 8 drives and the data was just on a windows 7 machine all over the place.  (maybe 1tb total)

Then I moved on to one of those out of the box 2 bay NAS deals. Eventually upgraded to a fully deployed FREENAS with an absurd amount of storage.
