It's a class tribute...

A mural to honour the memory of Keith Flint has appeared in Southend, two weeks after The Prodigy frontman’s tragic death.

Flint was found dead at his Essex home earlier this month, with an inquest later confirming that the star had taken his own life. In the wake of his death, his bandmates Liam Howlett and Maxim described him as a “true pioneer, innovator and legend”, while tributes to Flint came from stars as far ranging as Elton John.

Now, a new mural to Flint has appeared in Southend-on-Sea, less than an hour away from his home in the Essex town of Great Dunmow.

The new mural by local artist John Bulley covers an entire wall and features an impressive interpretation of Flint mid-way through a performance. The piece is aptly titled Twisted Animator – a spin on the lyrics of The Prodigy’s breakout hit ‘Firestarter.’

According to The Southend Echo, the tribute is located under a railway bridge in the seaside town’s high street and was commissioned by Alison Dewey, the town’s Business Improvement District manager.

“I thought it might be a nice tribute to a brilliant Essex frontman and I, like many people of my generation who experienced the rave scene of the late 80’s and 90’s, loved The Prodigy!” he said.

The NME Obituary: Keith Flint, 1969-2019: the twisted face of rave, the beating heart of The Prodigy
“John’s painting is a wonderful way to remember Keith.”

“John’s painting of Keith follows on from his previous works in the town centre and on the seafront. People will remember his eye-catching Princess Leia from ‘Star Wars’ on Eastern Esplanade and portrait of The Libertines’ singer Pete Doherty, in Nelson Mews.”

Thousands have also signed a petition to have a statue of Flint erected in The Prodigy’s Essex hometown of Braintree.

Meanwhile, it was recently confirmed that a DJ tour of the UK will take place in Flint’s honour.
