The rapper has long admired the sacrifice of his friend and former San Francisco 49er

J. Cole has said that he continued to stand by exiled NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

The ‘Middle Child’ rapper, who has long supported the sacrifice of his friend Kaepernick following his kneeling during the American National Anthem in 2016, has shared his thoughts on the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback’s decision to settle his lawsuit with the NFL.

During a chat with GQ, Cole’s interview was interrupted by a FaceTime call from Kaepernick.

“You’re buying me dinner when I’m in New York,” Cole joked with Kaepernick, referring to the news of the settlement. Reports speculate that the payout is as much as $100 million.

After the call ended the interview turned to the subject of the settlement and Kaepernick’s decision to do so.

“Listen, justice was served,” Cole said, after questions of whether or not his friend was selling out, or whether he was being smart, were brought up. “This man got his money, know what I mean?”

Speculating on whether Kaepernick will ever play in the NFL again, Cole added: “He’ll probably play again.” Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since 2016.

Meanwhile, Rihanna, among others, reportedly turned down the chance to headline February’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, in a show of solidarity with Kaepernick.

The singer was the NFL’s top choice for this year’s performance, but it’s believed she shunned the huge event to support the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback. Kaepernick was the first NFL player to take a knee in protest against police brutality in 2016.
