Sebastian Stan, Samuel L. Jackson, William Hurt, and more star in the trailer for the true story inspired drama, The Last Full Measure. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to grow, so too does the number of actors who've appeared in the franchise. And while some of those stars are moving on following the conclusion of Phase 3, others will remain in the MCU for the foreseeable future. Among the members of the latter group is Stan, who's currently reprising his role as Bucky/Winter Soldier for the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

However, before the show premieres next year, Stan will return to the big screen in a very different project. Titled The Last Full Measure, the movie is based on the real-life story of William H. "Pits" Pitsenbarger, a U.S. Air Force medic who flew hundreds of rescue missions during the Vietnam War. Stan costars in the film as Scott Huffman, an investigator who tries to help procure Pitsenbarger The Congressional Medal of Honor for his deeds, decades after his death. Now, with its January release just around the corner, The Last Full Measure's marketing is getting underway.

The trailer for The Last Full Measure dropped online this morning, ahead of its premiere in theaters. You can check it out, below.

Written and directed by Todd Robinson (Lonely Hearts, Phantom), The Last Full Measure picks up thirty-two years after Pits (Jeremy Irvine) saved the lives of more than sixty men during a deadly battle in 1966. Judging by the trailer, most of the film will focus on Huffman as he's tasked by the Pentagon with fast-tracking the Medal of Honor request made by Pits' best friend and combat partner on his final mission (Hurt). As the preview goes on to reveal, Huffman gradually uncovers a conspiracy behind Pits' being denied the medal after all these years, forcing him to make some tough choices in his search for justice. Stan and Hurt are joined by their fellow MCU alumnus Jackson and Ed Harris (Westworld) as two of the Vietnam veterans who witnessed Pits' valor during the war, along with Christopher Plummer (Knives Out) as Pits' fading, but still determined father.

The Last Full Measure seems like a respectful, if standard, military drama so far, with most of the cast doing fine (if similarly unexceptional) work in the trailer. Thankfully, the film doesn't look particularly jingoistic, either, focusing instead on the story about Huffman's attempt to hold the U.S. military accountable for trying to cover up their mistakes during the Vietnam War, and get them to recognize the importance of Pits' actions in combat. Its January release date suggests Roadside knows this one's commercial prospects will be limited (even if word of mouth is good), and are releasing in during a less competitive frame accordingly. Still, as far as beginning-of-the-year releases go, The Last Full Measure looks better than most.
