Mark Boucher's appointment as South Africa's men's team coach was confirmed on Saturday. The former wicketkeeper-batter has been contracted until after the 2023 World Cup.

Enoch Nkwe, who took the team to India in October as interim team director, was named assistant coach, with former selection convener Linda Zondi returning as an independent member of a panel that will also feature captain Faf du Plessis, Boucher and Nkwe.

On Monday (December 16), they will announce South Africa's squad for the first two Tests of their four-match series against England, that starts in Centurion on December 26.

The announcements were made by Graeme Smith, who on Wednesday was named Cricket South Africa's director of cricket for the next three months. "I have brought Boucher on board because I feel he will bring the toughness to turn a young and inexperienced Proteas squad into a battle-ready outfit," Smith said.

"With his experience of a long career as an international cricketer he has first hand experience of what it takes to succeed in the Test arena. I have the highest regard for Enoch as well and I want to create a clear path for him to grow into a top international coach."

Meanwhile CSA's new management team has opted for continuity in a couple of roles, retaining retaining the technical support staff along with Volvo Masubelele staying on as team manager and Justin Ontong as fielding coach. The new batting and bowling consultants will be announced in the next couple of days.
