Australia suffered a bowling setback of their own in Perth after fast bowler Josh Hazlewood was ruled out of the ongoing Test with a hamstring strain.

The pacer pulled up feeling his left hamstring midway through his second over and was forced off the field. An MRI confirmed a left hamstring strain as a result of which, he will not bowl for the remainder of this Test, although, he may bat if required. His recovery will be monitored in the coming weeks and a decision on his futher participation will be made at a later stage.

Both teams have been reduced to 10 players each with New Zealand's Lockie Ferguson restricted to just 11 overs of bowling on the opening day of his debut Test after picking up a calf injury.

The 28-year-old Hazlewood has been enjoying one of the more productive phases of his 51-Test career so far. He has taken 31 wickets at 21.94 since the Ashes and is only five scalps away from completing 200 Test wickets. Even in the eight balls he did bowl at New Zealand, he claimed the wicket of Jeet Raval.

Australia, down to three specialist bowlers, even had Matthew Wade bowl two overs of his medium pace.
