When Zac Efron decided to do a series called Killing Zac Efron, he likely didn't actually believe the show would try to deliver on its premise. Unfortunately, the Hollywood actor reportedly found himself in a "life or death" situation and had to be hospitalized for a stretch of time. Now Efron is on the mend after an incident that could've ended his career permanently.

Allegedly, Zac Efron was filming his survival reality series Killing Zac Efron when he had to be rushed via helicopter from Australia to Papua New Guinea for medical treatment. The Mirror reported that Efron had fallen ill with either typhoid or some similar bacterial infection. Efron was said to be in the hospital for 7 days, but has since been given the "all clear" from doctors. That would seemingly mean he's out of danger, and ready to resume being one of the coolest guys in Hollywood.

The situation could've been a lot worse, given the premise of his series. Killing Zac Efron puts the High School Musical and Baywatch actor in a remote dangerous island with only basic gear and an experienced tour guide. Efron was supposed to go 21 days in the wilderness for the filming, but it's unknown how far he was into the process when he fell ill. The series was originally intended to air on the mobile short-form content streaming platform Quibi in 2020.

Killing Zac Efron won't be the first time audiences have seen the actor toughing it out in the wilderness. Efron appeared on an episode of Running Wild With Bear Grylls, and spent two days traveling with the notoriously daring host hiking the Catskills. Ironically enough, Grylls also had a life threatening event occur earlier this year out in the wild, so maybe celebrities should try to find some solace in the domesticated life and perhaps try again in 2020?

All credit to Zac Efron for toughing it out in the wilderness, though perhaps in the future fans may like to see him stick to acting. After all, there's some positive chatter about him playing The Human Torch Johnny Storm in the MCU, which could mean a lot more screen time for Efron in the coming years. Sure, a reality series where he's off battling the elements is great, but who doesn't want to see this guy soaring and flying around other members of The Avengers?

One Thing Zac Efron Kept Trying To Do On The Greatest Showman That Wasn't Historically Accurate
