A Quiet Place 2 Trailer Reveals the Beginning of the Monster Invasion

 

The trailer for A Quiet Place 2 has arrived. These past few years have been exceptionally fruitful for horror, with filmmakers like Jordan Peele, Ari Aster, and Robert Eggers emerging as exciting new voices in the genre. John Krasinski was equally able to leave his mark with A Quiet Place, an original monster movie that made waves at SXSW 2018 before opening the following April, becoming an instant success at the box office thanks to its slender $20 million budget. It ultimately proved to be one of the most critically-acclaimed thrillers in recent memory, with both the American Film Institute and National Board of Review ranking it among their top ten films of 2018.

With returns like those, it's no wonder Paramount started work on A Quiet Place 2 less than a month after the first movie hit theaters. Krasinski is back as the writer-director on the sequel, with his real-life wife Emily Blunt once again starring opposite Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe, in addition to franchise newcomers Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou. The film's marketing is now fully underway, with its teaser having dropped online shortly before today's trailer unveiling.

In an unexpected twist, the trailer for A Quiet Place 2 actually starts off with a flashback to the first day the world was attacked by alien monsters that hunt by sound. What follows is a very intense and seemingly one-take action sequence that gives Krasinski an opportunity to further prove his bonafides behind the camera as director. As a whole, the sequel appears to be more action-heavy than the first Quiet Place, following leads Evelyn Abbott (Blunt) and her children (Simmonds and Jupe) as they venture past the sand path surrounding their home shortly after their patriarch Lee (Krasinski) was killed, leaving his family to fight for themselves. This all but confirms A Quiet Place 2 will be a sequel in the vein of Aliens and Terminator 2, expanding its predecessor's scale while attempting to deliver bigger, yet still effective thrills.

By the look of things, A Quiet Place 2 will also take a leaf from The Walking Dead's book, revealing that some of the people in this new world are just as dangerous as the sound-sensitive creatures. Murphy's as-yet unnamed character claims as much in the sequel's trailer, even as he helps the Abbotts on their journey and does his best to protect them (assuming he doesn't have ulterior motives for doing so). Hounsou, meanwhile, makes a brief appearance in the preview, though he too appears to be playing a decent person just trying to stay alive and keep his kid(?) safe. Needless to say, it will be interesting to see how these newcomers figure into the plot of the actual movie.
