Slighlty different sharing question... if I have a bunch of torrents downloaded from one tracker, can I seed them on another tracker?  If not, why wouldn't the tracker want more seeders?

You can but it has to use a separate torrent file and will show up twice in your client.

Ex. Someone uploaded the same torrent to site a and site b. You download the torrent from site a. You must then also grab the .torrent file from site b and add that to your client.

Just to be safe I always add my second .torrent file in a paused state and use the force recheck option then start seeding after its been verified.

DO NOT add both trackers to the same torrent in your client. This causes the client to report incorrect data and  will get you banned on both trackers.

Thanks CelestiaRain, I gave that a shot and the check gets to 99.9% on the torrent from Site B.  When I check what's missing it's the .nfo file and 1mb of the first .rar file.  Interestingly, the original has both of these at 100%.  I forced the recheck again and it stops at the same point but the files are there at the source.  I tried a different torrent and the same thing happened, .nfo missing and 1mb missing from the first .rar file.  I noticed the torrent files on Site B have the tracker name appended to it e.g. Homeland.S07E01.XviD-Blah [Tracker].torrent.  Could that be anything to do with it?

Thanks again for your help!

@AlfaElephant I'm not completely sure tbh. I havent had it do that to me. You can try also forcing a recheck on the first one and see if there was an error or corrupted chunk in the download.  If you hit play on the second torrent it will download only the missing data. This is fine for the .nfo file but it might cause an issue with the rar file if the data is indeed different.

If you decide to download the data from the second torrent I would make a copy of the file first just incase it messes up the original seed.

Thanks again!  Ok, I'm the only seeder on Site B for one of them but will try the backup and start approach on the other.  I've only two trackers atm so cannot test with any others but will edit this thread when done to let you know how it went!

That worked thank you.  I tried another one and this time it checked out 100% but fails with a "unregistered torrent pass".  Meh.  I'll keep trying various ways, thank you again, let me give you some points!

" Unregistered torrent pass " is generally because said torrent is not found on that tracker. It would have to be uploaded to the tracker database.

A good idea for reseeding is popular freeleeches. I see so many that are posted on one tracker then a few minutes later the same one is posted on a different tracker. It's not hard to download on one and then recheck that same download with the torrent files from the other trackers. Easy upload credit for all of them with no obligation to seed for x amount of time.

Great point thank you cRuci4L!  That and sticking to scene releases I guess!

The more verbose/technical explaination for those interested - Just about every private tracker, when you download a torrent file, has embedded within the file a passkey.  This passkey is unique to your account and is how the tracker knows who you are.

So what happens if you share the same torrent file from one tracker with someone else, it's the equivalent of allowing someone else to use your account on the given tracker, which is against most sites' rules.  With that said, however, if your tracker does allow you to seed/download from more than one IP (and you know/trust the person who has the torrent), you may be able to get away with it.  But remember, if your no longer in control of who has a torrent file provided from your account (with your unique passkey), you aren't really any more in control of who has access to your account since the passkey can be extracted, and as this passkey is the same for all torrent accessing that account (the passkey is actually how the tracker knows who you are), it's generally not a great idea to share the torrent file unless you're willing to take the risks discussed.

With that said, if you then download a torrent file from another site, and use it to fetch 100% of its files, there is nothing specific in these already downloaded files to your account that links you to the account on the other tracker (unless perhaps the files themselves are exclusive to the first tracker), so (assuming the files are exactly the same) you can easily re-seed them on another tracker (using the other tracker's torrent file). And if you have upload access on the new tracker (and aren't breaking the first site's rules regarding exclusive content), you could even create a new (for now passkey-less) torrent for the new tracker and share content across trackers.   In that case, your tracker would typically make you re-download the torrent w/ the passkey added after adding the content to the tracker.   And as mentioned, you'll have two torrents active in your client (one for each tracker) but both pointing to the same set of files.

In the case where you had it stuck at 99%, that usually means that almost all the chunks the torrent file describes are identical, however one or two may not be.  It's probably safe to just re-download those chunks (if available from other people on the newer tracker), and you should be able to reach 100% then.

Are you asking if you can share a torrent file from any private tracker to someone id so in most of the cases it is not allowed as every torrent is tied to your account using UID. if you share it with your friend then it will be ok but if you share it on some website then it can end up getting your account banned. As different ips will be downloading the same file from you UID.
