A new Star Wars: Squadrons trailer debuted at Gamescom Opening Night Live, showing how the game's narrative fits into the Disney-era canon of the Star Wars saga. The video expands on the singleplayer part of the game, which is going to focus on dogfighting action featuring iconic space vessels from the beloved galaxy far, far away.

Star Wars: Squadrons was initially revealed at the beginning of the summer as a spiritual successor to the fan-favorite Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. The new game was announced as a primarily multiplayer title, although it will feature a singleplayer narrative portion. In an attempt to make the experience as fair as possible for all the players, developers from EA Motive made the decision to stick exclusively to the first-person view while piloting the ships. This will slightly restrict the available field of view, although it’s definitely not enough to hide the beauties of Star Wars: Squadrons’ environments, as clearly shown in the latest video.

During Gamescom 2020's Opening Night Live show, Star Wars fans were treated to a new Star Wars: Squadrons trailer focusing on the singleplayer portion of the game. Star Wars: Squadrons' story campaign will cover the events right after the conclusion of Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, placing it within the newly established Disney-era canon of Star Wars leading up to the events of The Force Awakens. According to the trailer, players will take the role of two pilots belonging to both the fledgling New Republic and the rapidly decaying Galactic Empire. The video includes developer's commentary on how exactly the events of the game tie into the major narrative of Star Wars. A few examples of gameplay footage demonstrate furious space dogfighting in various exciting environments including asteroid fields and huge exploding arenas inside capital ships.
