The latest batch of images from Denis Villeneuve's Dune show Jason Momoa taking down enemies, plus offer glimpses of other cast members. Villeneuve is the latest director to try his hand at adapting Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi novel into live-action form, and while previous attempts have left fans wary, many are hopeful that this iteration of Dune can help turn things around. Villeneuve has already shared his intention to split Dune into two parts in order to properly explore Herbert's world, and he has assembled an awe-inspiring cast to help him do so. This cast includes Timothée Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, and Momoa.

Dune takes place on the desert planet Arrakis, home to an incredibly valuable resource typically known as spice. The Atreides family stand as the leaders of Arrakis, though it is the son Paul (Chalamet) who finds himself embarking on an important journey throughout the story. Fans have been impatiently awaiting the arrival of the first Dune trailer, which was initially reported to arrive in August. However, Warner Bros. confirmed last week that Dune's trailer will arrive online on September 9.

As fans await the first bit of footage from the film, they've been treated to a flurry of new images. Empire recently debuted new Dune covers, and now the publication has shared three new pictures. The first shows Paul and Chani (Zendaya), one of Arrakis' Freman natives, prowling around together, while the second offers a new look at Paul's father Duke Leto (Isaac) and his master-at-arms Gurney Halleck (Brolin). Finally, fans have a new shot of Momoa's Duncan Idaho in the middle of battle. You can check them all out down below.

The first batch of Dune images were hit with some mixed reactions from fans, but excitement for the film still seems strong. Perhaps it's because Dune remains one of the few major blockbusters still scheduled for 2020, and the hope is that its position in December will keep it safe from any delays. However, Villeneuve has explained his progress in finishing the film has been slowed by the coronavrius pandemic, so a potential delay remains a real concern.

Nevertheless, Warner Bros. is plunging ahead with its promotion of Dune. The arrival of the trailer in just a couple of weeks is bound to stir up even more interest in the film, especially since it will give audiences a better idea of what to expect from the sci-fi epic. There are still plenty who remain wary of Villeneuve's efforts, and only time will tell if he manages to beat expectations. Still, these images certainly make it seem promising.

I'm still approaching this one with a bit of trepidation.  I actually saw the '84 version in the theater when I was young and at the exact right age to fall in love with something.  I ended up reading the book a year later.  I've read Dune more than any other book, so ... you have pictures in your head.  I actually cannot imagine them getting Baron Harkonnen any better than they did in '84.  I liked the '84 stillsuits as well.

That's the thing with media properties you fall in love with (especially as a kid), you want them to live on and evolve and at the same time, you really don't.

Thanks for the update.
