Watch Dogs Legion will be packaged for free with new Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 Series GPUs. Watch Dogs Legion is Ubisoft's wildly ambitious sequel to Watch Dogs 2. The game seeks to raise the bar of the franchise by putting players in a huge sandbox version of London populated by fully-fleshed NPCs who each have their own schedules, likes, dislikes, goals, and behavioral quirks. Each and every one of these NPCs can be recruited to the player's underground hacking operation, and they are all fully playable in every mission that the game throws at you.

This premise isn't the only ambitious thing about Watch Dogs Legion. The game is also trying to push the envelope of graphical fidelity by boasting ray tracing, a powerful and graphics-intensive rendering process that attempts to accurately simulate how light travels from a source. Many developers and programmers have heralded ray tracing as the future of next-gen video games, but the hardware has had a bit of trouble catching up to the dream. A recent preview build of Watch Dogs Legion featured the new ray-tracing software, but limitations that were present even on powerful Nvidia hardware that was specifically designed to support ray tracing technology meant that the game was locked at only 30 frames per second.

But Nvidia hasn't given up. It's releasing a new generation of GPUs designed to support ray-tracing and enable the most demanding next-gen experiences on PC. The 30-series boasts a new generation of RTX architecture to boost the gaming experience, and to help demonstrate the power of this new technology, Nvidia has announced on its website that it is offering free digital downloads of Watch Dogs Legion with each purchase of a new GeForce device, for a limited time. Also included in the purchase is a one-year membership to GeForce NOW, Nvidia's video game streaming service.

Each individual product in Nvidia's 30 Series will be released at a different date over the next two months. Fans can look forward to the 3080 on September 17th and the 3090 on the 24th, while the 3070 will be coming out sometime in October. Watch Dogs Legion, meanwhile, won't come out until October 29th; presumably, fans who take advantage of this preorder deal will have to wait until then to see how the game performs on the new hardware.

Graphical limitations are hardly the only thing Watch Dogs Legion has to overcome to be regarded as a success. The game's core premise is practically unheard of, and while it has the potential to be a massive delight for players, it has just as much of a chance to ruin the game entirely. Ubisoft is banking a lot on its ability to deliver a truly masterful next-gen experience. Time will tell if Watch Dogs Legion is everything the developer wants it to be.
