Netflix just dropped the first trailer for David Fincher's new film Mank, confirming an official release date of December 4. The film stars Gary Oldman as Herman J. Mankiewicz, the alcoholic screenwriter known for co-writing Orson Welles' signature masterpiece Citizen Kane about the tumultuous life and legacy of powerful newspaper magnate Charles Foster Kane.

After months of speculation surrounding the project, Netflix tweeted out the Mank teaser trailer today, noting the film will debut on Netflix on December 4 following a limited theatrical run in November. Mank will explore the making of Citizen Kane and the legendary Hollywood mystery surrounding which of the two men (Mank or Welles) is actually responsible for writing what many consider the greatest movie ever made. Check out the trailer below:

The highly-anticipated period drama marks Fincher's first feature since 2014's Gone Girl starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. Since then, Fincher has mostly remained loyal to Netflix, producing and directing many of their most popular TV series like House of Cards, Mindhunter, and Love, Death & Robots.

The movie features an impressive ensemble playing an array of Hollywood legends, including Tom Burke as Orson Welles, Arliss Howard as Louis B. Mayer, and Craig Robert Young as Charlie Chaplin. Also worth noting is that Mank was written by David Fincher's late father Jack, meaning the film could very well end up being Fincher's most personal project to date.
