Jessica Henwick, an English actress with an undisclosed role in the upcoming Matrix 4, spoke of her excitement watching Keanu Reeves reprise his iconic role as Neo. Henwick has risen into mainstream popularity recently—receiving her breakout role in the television series Spirit Warriors, becoming the first actress of East Asian descent to play the lead role in a British television show. She has also had roles in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Game of Thrones, and the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong. One of Henwick's most famous roles comes from her portrayal of Colleen Wing—a character that appeared in several Netflix Marvel shows like Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and The Defenders.

A lot of mystery still surrounds the production of Matrix 4. Few concrete story details are known, and the public discourse around the film is largely speculation based on set photos. We do know that Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Jada Pinkett Smith are reprising their roles from the original trilogy. Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving will not be returning, the former having not been asked to join the film and the latter, unfortunately, having to bow out due to scheduling conflicts. Several speculate that time travel will be involved in some way. But, nothing has been confirmed from those involved with the production, and the plot and story of The Matrix 4 remain an enigma to most. Reeves' portrayal as Neo also draws a lot of questions—as the character was seemingly killed off at the end of The Matrix Revolutions.

In an interview with NME, Henwick opened up about her experiences playing opposite Reeves in The Matrix 4. Henwick, who is currently in Berlin as The Matrix 4's production begins to wrap, spoke about her excitement at seeing Reeves portray Neo again. She stated how the second Reeves began speaking in character, it was so clear that Neo had returned. Check out her full statement below:

Interestingly, this isn't the first time Henwick has publicly spoken about her excitement for The Matrix 4. Henwick spoke about how she believes the film will change the industry, having a similar impact that the original had back in 1999. The actress states that director Lana Wachowski is pushing technology in a similar way that she and her sister Lily did when they directed the first movie.

While we don't know much about The Matrix 4, the buzz behind the film is undeniable. Both Reeves and Moss have been outspoken about their excitement returning to the franchise, citing the screenplay as the main reason that they chose to return. Reeves' performance in the original trilogy is understated but iconic. Henwick's statement shows that despite Neo's subdued demeanor, the character still has defining characteristics that are immediately noticeable when Reeves steps back into his leather boots. While the film won't be released for another year, Henwick's statements provide a brief glimpse at what The Matrix 4 has to offer.
