Halo: The Master Chief Collection is now available in its entirety on PC, but developer 343 Industries says that work on the game is far from over. Now that Halo 4 has arrived on PC as the last part of the collection, PC players finally have full access to an anthology that spans all but one of the mainline Halo games.

When the Master Chief Collection first launched for the Xbox One in 2014, it was nothing short of a disaster. Technical problems were rampant across every game, especially in the multiplayer suite. Dysfunctional matchmaking, slowdown, crashes, and disconnects plagued players for months after launch; in short, the collection was clearly under-cooked. However, 343 apologized to the community for the state of the game and vowed to fix all its issues with a dedicated team. It took a long time, but 343 ultimately made good on its promise and turned the MCC into one of the best games on Xbox One. The studio has also been bringing the collection to PC in increments throughout the past year, and now that process is complete.

Today, 343 Industries announced that Halo 4 has arrived as the sixth and final installment in The Master Chief Collection on PC. The update adds all 25 of the game's multiplayer maps to the online suite as well as a new armor customization system with more interchangeable pieces. It also brings back the Spartan Ops co-op missions and their episodic story-driven content. However, the studio said that its support for the MCC won't be ending any time soon. There will still be "new features, updates, and seasons" coming to the collection in 2021, along with even more customization options.

This update also marks the release of the MCC on Xbox Series X and S, which features its own host of current-gen optimizations. The Series X is capable of running all the campaign and multiplayer modes at 120fps in 4K, while the Series S can still run them at 120fps in 1080p. The current-gen version also offers improved split-screen and an adjustable field-of-view for each game, with crossplay now enabled between all three platforms.

While there are a lot of questions swirling around the development of Halo Infinite, that's thankfully not the case with The Master Chief Collection. In fact, 343 has been exceptionally transparent throughout the development of these ports, and has turned the MCC into one of the most worthwhile compilations in gaming history. Although fans still have no idea when Halo Infinite will actually come out, there's more than enough Halo content to tide them over in the meantime.
