We Can Be Heroes 2 Announced By Netflix

Netflix confirms the Heroics will return in We Can Be Heroes 2. In the age of superhero movies, Robert Rodriguez returned to family-friendly entertainment to create an original superhero universe. He previously launched the Spy Kids franchise and made his first superhero movie with 2005's The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D. Between his more recent work on Alita: Battle Angel and The Mandalorian season 2, Rodriguez returned to superheroes for We Can Be Heroes.

His latest movie debuted on Netflix in late 2020 and followed the children of the Heroics, Earth's greatest superteam, as they join forces to fend off an alien invasion after their parents are defeated and kidnapped. We Can Be Heroes featured the return of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, with Pedro Pascal playing this universe's equivalent of Iron Man. But, the majority of the story focuses on his character's daughter Missy Moreno (YaYa Gosselin), who unites the other children to save their parents and the planet. Although the story was self-contained, the new generation of Heroics is coming back.

It has been officially announced that We Can Be Heroes 2 is in development. Robert Rodriguez confirmed the news on Twitter and noted that he is currently working on developing the sequel. The announcement came right after Netflix revealed projections that We Can Be Heroes will be watched by 44 million households in its first 4 weeks of release. We Can Be Heroes 2 does not have an official release date yet.

The image attached to Rodriguez's post says he is in charge of developing We Can Be Heroes 2. Rodriguez is confirmed to be involved with The Mandalorian spinoff The Book of Boba Fett as a producer, but he might also be directing some (if not all) of the episodes. With the Boba Fett series already filming and coming to Disney+ in late 2021, Rodriguez should be free to work on We Can Be Heroes 2 full-time relatively soon. And since the new franchise features an incredible young cast, it is best for the sequel to move forward as fast as possible.

With the projections Netflix has for We Can Be Heroes, it is hardly a surprise that they're capitalizing on the success with a sequel. Rodriguez is no stranger to launching popular kids action franchises either, but whether or not We Can Be Heroes can become as big as the Spy Kids franchise remains to be seen. Who knows, perhaps We Can Be Heroes 2 will even combine the two franchises together and expand Rodriguez's own universe. It should be fun to see where Rodriguez takes the franchise next either way.
