A first look at The Forever Purge has been revealed, giving fans a glimpse into what's in store for the final movie in the highly successful The Purge franchise. Kicking off in 2013, The Purge began as a simple home invasion movie with a twist. The first film starred Ethan Hawke, and Lena Headey as a suburban couple whose house is under siege by murderous maniacs let loose by a government program that allows for any crime to be committed in 24 hours.

The franchise has spawned three more films and a television series, each centered around a unique aspect of the dystopian nightmare introduced in the first film. The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year are the only two films to feature the same cast. The fourth film, The First Purge, acts as a prequel centered around the first time the titular event took place. While not necessarily critical hits, the low-budget films have been a smash at the box office, and with this fifth film, screenwriter James DeMonaco is looking to bring his franchise to a close. The Purge franchise, known for its social commentary, looks to continue that trend with the latest entry.

DeMonaco told Total Film Magazine(via Gamesradar) that The Forever Purge will discuss relations between its American and Latino characters. The film will take place after the events of The Purge: Election Year and follow a group of people under siege by maniacs who refuse to stop purging when their time is up. The two main characters, Adela (Ana de la Reguera) and Juan (Tenoch Huerta) are fleeing a drug cartel in Mexico when they find shelter at a Texas ranch. Their peace is short-lived.

It’s an amazing story of Latinos and Americans coming together to overcome despair and evil.

Hopefully, The Forever Purge can bring the franchise to a satisfying conclusion. The short-lived television series, which aired on the USA network, was canceled after two seasons. One of the franchise's strengths was its ability to tell different stories throughout its universe, something that the overarching story that drives the plot of the films allows for. The films have long had a political bent, and DeMonaco clarifies that that won't be going away with the final film.

Seeing as The Forever Purge won't answer all the questions The First Purge left unanswered, DeMonaco is starting with a fresh slate going into the final film. Still, most of The Purge franchise entries have mainly been self-contained, save for the interconnected two films. This gives the final movie a reset that will allow a new story to be told while still giving viewers everything they want from a Purge movie, creepy masks, political commentary, and all the other franchise hallmarks. The Forever Purge will have to do one thing, though - it must up the ante on the action and mayhem to bring the violent series to a fitting conclusion. From what DeMonaco has said, it sounds like it will do just that.
