PS5 Restocks At Target Reportedly Expected This Week

According to a new report, Target stores across the US are expected to be restocked with PlayStation 5 consoles over the course of the next week. The system has been notoriously difficult to get hold of and sold out almost immediately across all retailers, whether physical or online. The problem has become so big that some fans have resorted to paying more than double the price of the PS5 to ensure that they get one of the highly coveted systems.

The shortage of PS5s has been exacerbated by the fact that scalpers have operated a highly efficient program, snatching up almost every available console that goes on sale. That has led to even fewer gamers being able to secure a console. Despite the widespread controversy over scalping, retailers have been slow to put systems in place to prevent the practice and scalpers continue to stockpile thousands of PS5s around the world.

Target, one of the biggest retailers in the US, could be restocking the PS5 consoles next week according to a report by Spiel Times. The story, which was found by Gaming Intel, explains that Target stores are set to get new shipments of the systems beginning from January 19 until January 21. Sources speaking to Spiel Times revealed that each outlet will likely only get a handful of consoles though. In most cases, individual stores will only get around 4 to 12 units each, meaning that gamers won't have a great chance of getting their hands on a console. Spiel Times has previously accurately reported other stock drops at Target and indicates that stores across the US—including in the Pacific Northwest, Midwest, and Southeastern regions—are being restocked.

The controversy around the PS5 is not just focused on scalpers or a shortage of the consoles. There has also been criticism of companies like CustomizeMyPlates for offering custom systems with alternative plates that dramatically change the color of the PS5 from its standard design. The group even faced legal threats from Sony over claims of copyright infringement.

The fact that many stores across the US will be getting PS5 restocks will come as good news to many gamers who have been desperately trying to get a console over the last few months. The fact that they will be sold in physical stores also means that scalpers will be less likely to pick them all up to resell online. However, it is still disappointing that Sony cannot get larger numbers of the PS5 to retailers to ensure that everyone who wants one of the new systems can get one.
