WandaVision Is Set Immediately After Avengers: Endgame

WandaVision actress Teyonah Parris revealed that the series is set immediately after Avengers: Endgame. Endgame wrapped up the storyline of the first Avengers team that began in 2012 with Joss Whedon’s The Avengers. Endgame became the highest-grossing film of all time while concluding the arcs for major characters like Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), and the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson). Meanwhile, other heroes were positioned to take greater roles within the franchise or left to deal with the fallout of the epic finale (as in Phase 3's Spider-Man: Far From Home, where Tom Holland's Peter Parker deals with the loss of Tony Stark.)

WandaVision, Disney+’s first endeavor to extend the Marvel Cinematic Universe into television, attempts to pick up the pieces as Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) mourns the loss of her partner, Vision (Paul Bettany). Except Vision is seemingly alive on WandaVision, and his presence is just one of many questions raised by the meta, genre-bending dramedy. In the first two episodes, it’s unclear how much Wanda remembers, how much control she has over her circumstances, and even where or when the series is taking place.

Fans now have a more precise answer to that last question courtesy of Teyonah Parris, who plays Monica Rambeau, or as she’s known in the first few episodes, Geraldine). In an interview with TVLine, Parris shared that the show "picks up right after the events of [Avengers:] Endgame." While recent comments from Bettany concerning a potential WandaVision tag at the end of the Avengers film suggested as much, Parris’s words are confirmation of this timeline.

The Disney+ series' plot is so cloaked in mystery that any tidbit of information could help piece together this still-confusing puzzle, so theorists may be able to work with this new clue. Considering the greater MCU timeline, however, there are definitely still questions. For instance, does this mean WandaVision takes place "right after" Endgame’s final battle, or a matter of weeks or months following the events of the movie? Is WandaVision happening before Spider-Man: Far From Home (or perhaps concurrently)?

Clarity and WandaVision don’t go hand in hand at the moment, but fans can assume these answers will come in time. Answering all of WandaVision’s many questions is a tall order, but the series has promised to do just that and more, addressing how Vision is alive, what exactly is happening to Wanda, and what role the SWORD organization is playing in all of this. Parris even teased that the show will reveal Monica’s own backstory and what she’s been up to since first appearing as a child in Captain Marvel.

Of course, time is fairly flexible for someone with reality-altering powers like Wanda, but the series seems to be progressing through time in linear fashion via sitcom history. Starting with a black-and-white '50s homage, each subsequent episode appears to be moving through the decades. Therefore, WandaVision will presumably catch up to the present day soon enough, and that’s more than likely where Wanda, and her audience, will find answers.
