A new Wrong Turn reboot trailer confirms the horror movie’s VOD release date. Released in 2003, the original Wrong Turn delivered old-school teens-in-the-woods slasher thrills in the era of torture porn, and went on to be a modest hit with $28 million grossed at the box office on a budget of $12 million.

Of course like many a slasher film before it Wrong Turn was followed by a number of sequels, with the last arriving in 2014. Over the course of those six Wrong Turn movies, the series’ main antagonist the mutant cannibal Three Finger went on to become a memorable slasher villain in the vein of Jason and Leatherface (though certainly not as iconic as either of those classic movie monsters). Now Wrong Turn is getting a reboot, with a script by the original movie’s writer Alan McElroy and a cast that includes Charlotte Vega, Emma Dumont, Bill Sage and Matthew Modine.

It was previously announced that Wrong Turn the reboot will be getting a theatrical release amid the ongoing COVID pandemic, hitting theaters for one night only on January 26, 2021. A new trailer from Signature Entertainment (via Trailer Coverage) now confirms that the movie will hit VOD one month later on February 26. See the clip in the space below:

Like the previous longer trailer for Wrong Turn, the new clip features no sign of the series’ most identifiable villain, the aforementioned Three Finger. That's because the new film is leaving behind the mutant cannibal angle from the first movie in favor of some new villains called the Foundation, the descendants of a group of rebellious hill people who broke away from the United States in the 1800s and formed their own society (this is indeed teased in the new clip via a brief shot of a plaque bearing the names of the original Foundation members). There's also a bit of dialog in the new clip referring to the crazy people who still live in the hills and are only whispered about by the locals, who are clearly very scared of these reclusive former rebels.

The full nature of the new movie’s bad guys is yet to be revealed, but it does appear the reboot has more of a political angle with its story about the descendants of Civil War-era insurrectionists living in the hills and eating teenagers. What’s clear from the new trailer is that the kids who find themselves lost in the woods with these whispered-of villains are in a lot of trouble, which of course is only expected from a work that adheres at least roughly to the formula of a slasher film. Wrong Turn now has a release date so fans can eagerly look forward to the new spins series creator McElroy has put on his original story to make it work for horror audiences in 2021.
