News on FromSoftware’s upcoming title, Elden Ring, might be on the horizon according to one industry insider who suggests that fans will have something to be excited about soon. The hotly anticipated game was first revealed nearly two years ago. However, Elden Ring’s creators have kept relatively quiet about the project since then, driving many to speculate about the game’s status.

Recently, excitement surrounding the mysterious game spiked when previously unseen concept art was posted online. The artist, Gabriel Bjork Stiernstrom, had worked on the Elden Ring trailer and put the images up as part of a portfolio. The works of art, Stiernstrom explained, were meant as showpieces to display the artist’s professional skills. Following soon after a possible major leak, the images became more than that. In early January, a leaker claimed to have information about Elden Ring’s size, setting, and more. The Twitter post described the game as similar to Dark Souls but with a larger map. Most interestingly, the leak suggested the game would release in 2021, which seems to support an earlier hint from a member of the Elden Ring marketing team that fans have something to look forward to this year.

Jeff Grubb, a noted source for early game news, has also predicted that an update is coming soon, as reported by GameRant. The article focuses on Grubb’s replies to a Twitter post that jokingly depicts fans’ interest in Elden Ring as a soaring stock value, referencing the surging prices of GameStop shares recently. The response indicates that fans should actually have something to be very excited about soon, and when pressed on a timetable, Grubb theorizes that this Elden Ring news could be coming within sixty days. Although he also cautions that this information is not “perfect” and has no hard dates, the industry veteran does claim to have good intel from various, unnamed sources.

No official announcements regarding Elden Ring have been made recently, but it is clear that players are eager for something tangible to come from the FromSoftware team. Back in summer, one particularly restless fan even went so far as to create an entirely self-made, working demo. Despite the obvious cries to hear more about the game and the near-constant stream of leaks and rumors regarding the game, the team behind Elden Ring has remained silent.

Fans’ desire to know more about the next member of the Soulsborne family coupled with the developer’s tendency towards being tight-lipped on the project has created a kind of perfect storm for rumors and speculation. A major Elden Ring announcement would be great for everyone involved, so hopefully Jeff Grubb’s prediction comes to pass in the coming months.
