Black Adam producer, Hiram Garcia, has confirmed that the upcoming superhero movie will begin filming in April 2021. Attached to the play the character for over a decade, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's cinematic outing as the ancient Egyptian antihero Black Adam has been long anticipated. Johnson was originally tipped to portray the character as a villain in David F. Sandberg's 2019 Shazam! movie, as well as in an earlier version of The Suicide Squad. But given the former WWE star's stellar stature, DC Films spun the character off into a solo film set 5000 years after the imprisonment of the titular Kahndaq warrior.

After it was first announced, Black Adam took some time to get moving. But last year, the movie witnessed drastic progress, especially after it was teased to be a part of the main DCEU movie lineup at the DC FanDome. The initial plans were for Black Adam to begin filming in July 2020 and then bow in cinemas on December 22, 2021. However, due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in the US, the release date of the movie was significantly pushed back before it was pulled off the DCEU release calendar entirely. The massive reshuffling logically worried several fans, who feared that the movie would either be delayed significantly or that it may not see the light of the day at all. But much to their elation, Johnson eased their apprehensions as he confirmed that the film was on track to begin production in spring 2021. Now, there is another update concerning the progress of Black Adam.

On Tuesday, during his interview with Comic Book, Hiram Garcia, the President of Production at Johnson's Seven Bucks Production, confirmed that Black Adam was gearing up to begin filming in Georgia in April. Sharing his excitement and enthusiasm for the project, Garcia revealed that he was glad that despite the hurdles caused by the pandemic, the crew managed to reassemble and get the film moving in the right direction.

We're getting started soon, you know actually, we begin filming in April, we'll be in Georgia, home away from home. We're really excited man, we have everything is ramped up, we're so fired up for this. Obviously, you know how passionate we are about this project. This is very special to us, and you know, not only Black Adam, but JSA, and all these characters we're introducing to the world and, what we want to do with it, we're just... Look, we were supposed to have been filming last year. COVID, like it delayed everyone, it kinda got in the way, but we're happy we're able to pause, regroup, and now we're going to be getting going, and by April we'll be shooting and on track to bring this thing home.

In his interview, Garcia also added that it isn't just Black Adam that he is interested in introducing to the DC Universe. In fact, he is equally thrilled about the live-action debuts of the Justice Society of America (JSA) superheroes. As confirmed previously, Black Adam will be alone in his big-screen venture. Tagging along with him are the JSA members, a band of superhero underdogs who seek to fight for justice and truth. Four JSA members will appear in Black Adam, including Noah Centineo's Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge's Hawkman, Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone, and Doctor Fate, who is yet to be cast. Besides the JSA, the forthcoming movie will feature a bunch of other characters as well. Aladdin's Marwan Kenzari, for instance, will play a mysterious villain, whereas The Rookie's Sarah Shahi will likely appear as Isis, Adam's love interest.

The news concerning Black Adam's production date will expectedly cheer up several anxious fans. Over the years, the Black Adam movie has faced unprecedented roadblocks in its development, which have distressed fans about the fate of the film. But now, with the movie going forward next month, it seems like fans won't have to wait for too long to see Johnson don his superhero costume. DC typically starts production 18 months ahead of its films' release date. But with the Covid-19 safety precautions in place, Black Adam will likely take longer to film. If all goes smoothly, viewers can expect the movie to release by Christmas 2022. But since DC already has three movies scheduled to premiere next year (The Flash, The Batman, and Aquaman 2), it may shift Black Adam to an early 2023 slot. That said, with production on Black Adam soon to get underway, it's hopefully only a matter of months before DC allocates it a definitive premiere date on its release calendar.
