Final Justice League Snyder Cut Trailer Teases Martian Manhunter

Recommended Posts

The final trailer for Zack Snyder's Justice League has arrived and it teases the first real look at Martian Manhunter. Following a difficult and prolonged journey, Zack Snyder's true vision for Justice League is finally getting released on HBO Max. This version of the movie will be different from the 2017 theatrical versions in several ways, including whole new scenes and additional characters that push the movie to a four hour runtime.

Among the characters receiving additional screen time is Harry Lennix's General Swanwick aka Martian Manhunter. Though Lennix's Swanwick has been a part of the DCEU since Man of Steel, the character's trajectory within the universe was never fully realized in the theatrically released Justice League. In Snyder's original plan for the movie, it would be revealed that Swanwick has been the alien and eventual Justice League member Martian Manhunter, even using his abilities to take the form of Martha Kent at one point in the movie. However, for the Snyder Cut the Martian Manhunter reveal has been added back in, and in this final trailer, there's a shot teasing the alien's transformation.

With the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League only days away, HBO Max has debuted the movie's final trailer. It includes several moments of new footage, including more shots of Darkseid's invasion of Earth and the Green Lanterns on the scene to defend it. Perhaps the biggest tease, however, is a quick glimpse of Martha Kent with her eyes glowing red - a hint that she's actually Martian Manhunter in disguise. While only a handful have had the opportunity to see the completed Snyder Cut of Justice League, much of what happens in this version of the movie has already been known. Snyder himself shared the storyboards of the scene he originally envisioned as the reveal of Martian Manhunter. In it, Martha Kent is visiting with Lois Lane and after saying goodbye, Martha's eyes briefly glow red before she transforms into Martian Manhunter and then General Swanwick - confirming the alien's presence in the DCEU as well hinting he's been masquerading as Swanwick for some time.

The scene was never even completed for the 2017 theatrical release of Justice League and was instead replaced with an entirely different scene between Martha and Lois. Now, though, Snyder's original scene as well as his intention to reveal Martian Manhunter have been restored. For fans of the character who've always hoped to see J'onn J'onzz in live action, the moment is sure to be a treat, though it's unlikely to lead to any more appearances, at least not for this version. With the DCEU moving in a new direction, the events of Zack Snyder's Justice League aren't considered official canon for WB's upcoming slate of DC movies. Still, this tease could work as a proof of concept, possibly convincing those in charge of the DCEU that Martian Manhunter deserves a another shot.
