Zack Snyder’s Justice League teases an appearance by The Atom courtesy of a fake doctor’s note to free up fans for the film’s premiere on HBO Max. By now, pretty much everyone knows the story of the Snyder Cut, the version of Snyder’s Justice League that never made its way to theaters; following a family tragedy, Snyder was forced to depart as director and Joss Whedon stepped in to conduct major reshoots. In short, 2017’s critically panned Justice League and its two-hour runtime do not reflect what Snyder intended.

Thanks to the support of its cast, fans, and an estimated $70 million to film additional footage and complete his original cut, Snyder’s Justice League is set to debut this week. Its four-hour runtime should redeem the arcs of Batman, Cyborg, and include scenes and characters cut from the theatrical version such as Darkseid and Martian Manhunter (among many other things). March 18, 2021, is set to be an unprecedented event for comic book fans as one of the longest superhero movies of all-time (242 minutes) becomes available to watch in their homes. Many may need to get out of work/school/general activities just to watch it (multiple times).

Zack Snyder’s Justice League recently shared a “doctor’s note” on Twitter that audiences can use to stay home and watch the film. "To Whom It May Concern," the image reads. "Please excuse (blank) from work/school/general activities how big or small on Thursday, March 18, 2021, as he/she/they has a sizeable obligation to watch Zack Snyder's Justice League several times. In case you are unaware, this is a massive, unprecedented event." The note is signed by Dr. Ryan Choi, AKA The Atom. Check it out below.

Ryan Zheng’s Doctor Ryan Choi of S.T.A.R. Labs is one of the many characters to have been cut from Whedon’s Justice League. In addition to being a humorous promo, the above note teases what many already expected: the good doctor’s scenes have been restored in Snyder’s Justice League. Choi famously adopts the mantel of The Atom in the DC Universe. However, the character’s role in the film is likely a minor one that will not see him wear The Atom’s shrinking suit. Instead, we’ll probably see him interact with Cyborg’s father, Dr. Silas Stone, in S.T.A.R. Labs—a significant location in the film.

Like the reported cliffhanger, an appearance by Jared Leto’s Joker, and Darkseid himself, Choi’s role in Snyder’s Justice League was meant to foreshadow future entries in the “Snyderverse.” Perhaps in a Justice League sequel (which we’ll likely never see), Choi would’ve suited up as The Atom. While his doctor’s note is meant as a joke, the film’s release does commemorate a kind of holiday for all those who supported The Snyder Cut. Zack Snyder’s Justice League is a four-hour event unrestrained by studio interference, something that can’t necessarily be said about anything else in the genre.
