Star Trek: Discovery star Anthony Rapp teases his upcoming storyline in season 4. In 2017, Star Trek: Discovery helped usher in a new era for the long-running sci-fi franchise. Centering on a fresh team in the years before The Original Series, Discovery earned some mixed reviews from traditional fans of the property. That continued into its sophomore run, but the recent Discovery season 3 reinvented the series by sending the crew of the titular ship all the way to the 32nd century. By moving the show into an era the franchise has yet to really explore, Discovery season 3 felt like a return to form.

Star Trek: Discovery is already in production on season 4, though it remains to be seen when it will actually premiere on the recently rebranded Paramount+. The Discovery season 3 finale saw the crew take down crime boss Osyraa (Janet Kidder) and help pave the the way for a new Federation to emerge. Additionally, Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) officially became Captain of the USS Discovery, thus allowing season 4 to contain Star Trek's first all-female bridge crew.

In short, there's a lot to look forward to in Star Trek: Discovery season 4, and one of the series stars is already hyping up what's to come. Rapp, who plays the ship's chief engineer Paul Stamets, recently appeared on the It Do Take Nerd with Jackie Cox podcast and hinted at his season 4 storyline. Rapp is particularly excited about it because it has him interacting with someone new. Rapp said:

One of the cool things – I can’t tell you anything specific at all, but there’s an actor this season that I haven’t really got to interact with one-on-one with. That’s been one of the pleasures of season four so far. Getting to expand my repertoire of who I get to play in the sandbox with.

Rapp has been a part of Star Trek: Discovery since the very beginning, and the season 3 finale might have set up an interesting turn for his character. Following various clashes with Burnham, Stamets ended Discovery season 3 feeling a bit antagonistic towards his new captain. Whether this leads to a darker path for Stamets remains to be seen, but Rapp so far seems thrilled with how things are going. One of the best things a television show can do is introduce compelling new character pairings, and it sounds like that is exactly what is happening with season 4.

As Star Trek: Discovery just wrapped season 3 in January and filming on season 4 is still ongoing, it seems likely that the next episodes won't arrive until next year. Fans will have plenty of time to speculate about what's in store for Stamets, Burnham, and the rest of the Discovery crew. Provided the series continues its upward swing, it sounds like season 4 has the potential to be the best one yet. Rapp is excited, so perhaps fans should feel the same.
