The official trailer for the highly-anticipated psychological horror movie, The Night House, has finally arrived, teasing a chilling modern-day update to the classic haunted house trope. Directed by David Bruckner, a relative newcomer that is one of the most promising emerging horror directors of the last decade, The Night House stars Rebecca Hall as Beth, a woman reeling from the sudden death of her husband Owen (Evan Jonigkeit). Alone in the lakeside house that he built for her, Beth begins to experience haunting dreams and becomes sure of a ghostly presence in the house as she searches through her husband’s belongings and unravels a chilling mystery.

Hall is well suited to this role – the actress has had starring roles in many thrillers over the course of her career, including British horror-thriller, The Awakening, and psychological thriller, The Gift, alongside Jason Bateman. The official trailer for The Night House centers largely on her compelling performance as a grieving, isolated woman as she becomes more and more convinced there is a disturbing supernatural force taking over her home. Watch the full trailer from Searchlight Pictures below:

The Night House trailer effectively teases the film’s duality as both a horror and thriller with its ominous sound and mysterious dialogue about secrets. However, it also focuses on the duality of its narrative as Beth encounters a backwards version of their home with another version of her sleeping inside. The Night House trailer showcases a unique and terrifying premise, promising an enigmatic story that will immediately reel audiences in – and drag them under. The Night House will be released on July 16, 2021.
