Oscar-nominated writers Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo are teaming back up to write a Disney movie centered on Cinderella's evil stepsisters. Wiig and Mumolo have been a writing duo since becoming friends at the acclaimed Groundlings Theatre & School. The pair minted their partnership in Hollywood by penning the massively successful film Bridesmaids. Now fresh off their hit Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar, the twosome are eyeing their next project.

Deadline confirmed that Wiig and Mumolo will once again collaborate on a buddy comedy of sorts. The Saturday Night Live icon and Joy story writer are diving into the wonderful world of Disney with an untitled Cinderella Evil Stepsisters movie. Upping the ante even further, the project is set to be a musical comedy. Fans will see the beloved tale of Cinderella from the perspective of her typically-wicked stepsisters. From early childhood to the royal union of their heroic stepsister, the fairy tale flick will follow Anastasia and Drizella Tremaine as they attempt to maintain their family’s legacy.

Although the pals wrote and starred in Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar, this time around they may stay behind the camera. At this stage in development, it's not known if they'll appear in the movie at all. Reports have anchored any excitement that Wiig and Mumolo themselves would step into the stepsisters' ill-fitting shoes, citing that they intend for them to be played by younger performers.

If an evil stepsisters film strikes a familiar chord, it's because another high-profile SNL alum is developing the same concept. Back in March, Amy Poehler announced that she was working with Netflix on the animated adaption Steps, which also reframes Cinderella from the stepsisters' point of view. While movie doppelgängers often end up going head to head in theaters, it's odd to see it happening within the same Hollywood circle. Of course, the more reasons to laugh the better!
