Ray Fisher has joked he wants to play an older version of Blade after Mahershala Ali. Fisher is coming off an exciting few months thanks to the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League. The four-hour cut earned praise for its more expansive character arcs, particularly for Fisher's Victor Stone/Cyborg. The new version of the movie focuses more on Cyborg's backstory, including his relationship with his parents and the accident that led to his powers. All told, the Justice League Snyder Cut fulfills the director's promise that Fisher is the heart of his film.

Thanks to the many movie delays over the last year, the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League was particularly exciting. Luckily, there are many other superhero movies on the horizon, including the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Blade. As announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, Ali will play Eric Brooks/Blade in the film. The project has been in development for awhile now, but there may be more news soon, as Blade is reportedly set to begin filming in late 2021.

Though Ali has yet to make his MCU debut, Fisher is already joking about playing an older version of the character. During the recent "Spotlight on Ray Fisher" portion of Justice Con, the actor was asked which other hero of color he would like to play. Fisher answered:

I'm not sure right now. I mean, obviously Blade is one that I loved growing up as a kid, but Mahershala Ali, who I know is going to slay it, is already in that space. But maybe one day I'll be like an old grizzled Blade or something. Give it like 30 years, I'll be like the Whistler version of Blade.

Though Fisher is clearly joking about playing an older version of Blade, it makes sense he's interested in the character, especially since he enjoyed him growing up. Blade is one of the more unusual figures in the Marvel Comics, making his role in the MCU that much more intriguing. Though Ali will no doubt do Blade justice, it would be interesting to see Fisher's take on the character as well. He more than proved himself as an actor with his nuanced portrayal of Cyborg, so it stands to reason he could do the same with a character like Blade.

Considering how often characters and franchises are rebooted nowadays, it's entirely possible Fisher will get a chance one day. The most recent film in the Wesley Snipes Blade trilogy only released in 2004, so there will likely be less than 20 years between that movie and when Ali makes his debut as Blade. Additionally, superhero films are showing no decline in popularity as of now, so they'll likely be around for years to come. All told, Fisher could play Blade one day, hopefully after Ali's successful run as the character.
