Netflix misspelled Gundam on Twitter but shared the perfect correction afterward. Gundam is a popular media franchise that began in 1979 with the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam. It played a key role in the real robot sector of the mecha anime genre. The original 1979 show wound up spawning countless other TV series, movies, and video games.

In 2018, Legendary Entertainment and the Japanese animation studio Sunrise announced a live-action Gundam movie, with Pacific Rim: Uprising producer Cale Boyter onboard as well. Less than a year later, comics creator Brian K. Vaughan was hired to write the script, but then several months went by without any updates. That changed in early April, when Netflix announced Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts would both produce and helm the movie. Only a day later, Sunrise revealed production on the live-action Gundam film had begun, also sharing a poster for the project.

Based on these recent updates, it's clear progress is being made on the Gundam movie. Netflix is certainly eager to hype the film, mentioning it in a list of its upcoming projects with the caption "there's so much to get Geeked about." Unfortunately, eagle-eyed Twitter users noticed the streamer had spelled Gundam "Gundum" instead. This led Netflix to offer a hilarious correction, which you can check out below:

Mistakes like this are easy to make, particularly in a long list of movies and shows like this one. It was smart of Netflix to make light of the error in this way and points to the streamer's generally savvy social media use. In recent years, there's been a change in many brands' strategies online where they try to interact with other users the way a real person would in order to build a connection. There's no denying this can be very effective, especially in an amusing situation like this one.

Though unintentional, Netflix's mistake also brings more attention to the Gundam movie, spotlighting it on a crowded list. For many, it's one of the streamer's most highly anticipated projects, as they're eager to see how the popular franchise is adapted by Vogt-Roberts and the others behind the film. In recent years, Netflix has put more of a focus on anime, and it will be interesting to see if that pays off when the live-action Gundam movie comes out. In the meantime, the streamer's post is a good reminder of the other exciting films and shows on the way.
