Jason Momoa In Netflix Thriller Sweet Girl First Look Image

Jason Momoa is on the prowl in the first look image for his upcoming Netflix film Sweet Girl. Earlier this year, Momoa appeared in one of the most-talked about projects in recent memory with Zack Snyder's Justice League, where he reprised his role as Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman. He will once again play the character in 2022's Aquaman 2, though he has a few other non-DC projects scheduled before then. In addition to the highly-anticipated Dune adaptation (where he will play Duncan Idaho), Momoa will reunite with Netflix for the first time since his series Frontier for the Brian Andrew Mendoza-directed Sweet Girl.

Momoa stars as Cooper, a devastated husband still reeling from the death of his wife. He vows to bring justice to the people responsible while protecting the only family he has left, his daughter (Isabela Merced). Sweet Girl also features the likes of Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Adria Arjona, Justin Bartha, Michael Raymond-James, Raza Jaffrey, and Amy Brenneman. It's one of the many Netflix original movies debuting this summer, and the streamer has officially released its first look at the project.

On Tuesday, Netflix revealed both the first official Sweet Girl image, as well as its release date. The picture shows Momoa's Cooper in the woods at night, while Merced watches him from the door of their car. Might he have found a lead on his wife's killers, or are they merely on the run? Sweet Girl will be released on Netflix on August 20. Check out the picture down below.

In addition to Sweet Girl, Momoa will star in Slumberland for Netflix. Images for that film were released earlier this month, but it won't arrive until sometime next year. Sweet Girl is only a few months away, and Netflix will likely release a trailer closer to its August release date. This first image already captures the dark tone of the film and hints at Cooper's determination to track down his wife's killers. The revenge thriller isn't a new genre, but Sweet Girl looks to offer a slight twist with the addition of Cooper's daughter Rachel. The above image hints they might not have the easiest relationship, and it should be interesting to see how it evolves over the course of the film.

Netflix is putting a lot of stock on its original movie lineup for 2021, and Momoa's star power promises Sweet Girl will be one of the biggest projects to debut. Tuesday also saw the release of a first look image for The Kissing Booth 3, which will also arrive in August, as well as some peeks at a handful of other upcoming projects. Time and time again, Netflix has cemented itself as one of the most exciting homes for new movies, and this year promises to be one of its best.
