The Suicide Squad Images Tease Peacemaker, Bloodsport & Ratcatcher 2's Mission

New images from James Gunn's The Suicide Squad puts the spotlight on the mission involving Bloodsport, Peacemaker, and Ratcatcher II. Gunn made the jump from Marvel to DC for this project, which is the second attempt at bringing the villain/anti-hero team to the big screen. Acting as a sort of sequel, sort of soft reboot of the 2016 Suicide Squad, this new film boasts a sizable cast and an R-rating, much to the delight of fans. The Suicide Squad is scheduled to debut in theaters and on HBO Max in August.

Though a handful of characters from the original movie will return for this installment, The Suicide Squad will largely feature new members of Task Force X. Early pieces of promotional material for The Suicide Squad, such as the first trailer, confirmed the group will split into two for their latest mission, which involves traveling to the fictional island of Corto Maltese to destroy a Nazi-era lab. Gunn has hinted there will be quite the body count for this one, so it's probably safe to say not everyone will get along on their adventures.

One of the side missions involves Bloodsport (Idris Elba) and Peacemaker (John Cena), two of the most anticipated new characters in The Suicide Squad. In new images revealed by Total Film (via GamesRadar), the two bad guys embark on their quest alongside Ratcatcher II (Daniela Melchior), King Shark (Sylvester Stallone), and Polka Dot Man (David Dastmalchian). Elba's Bloodsport is the only character present in all the new pics, including the last one with Gunn. Check them out below.

The exact reasoning behind the separate mission in The Suicide Squad has yet to be revealed, but the trailers for the film have hinted at some of the character dynamics within this team. For example, Bloodsport and Peacemaker don't seem to get along very well, whereas the former and Ratcatcher II look to have a kinder, almost protective relationship. That mix of dynamics ensures The Suicide Squad won't be so one-note; there will be plenty of unique elements to win over audiences.

The team in the above images is just scratching the surface of the full Task Force X lineup, which also includes fan favorite Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and apparent team newcomer Thinker (Peter Capaldi). Splitting the groups into two feels like a smart option, purely because Gunn has assembled a good number of characters for The Suicide Squad. With so many colorful characters in play, it will be interesting to see which ones will stick out when the movie hits theaters later this summer.
