A script for the Static Shock movie is currently being drafted, according to Michael B. Jordan. Jordan is certainly no stranger to comic book films or superheroes given his portrayal of Kilmomger in Black Panther, who is widely considered to be one of the best villains in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. Before he starred opposite Chadwick Boseman, one of Jordan's early breakthroughs came in the found-footage superhero film Chronicle.

Jordan's next superhero venture will be a movie based on the DC Comics character Static Shock, which was announced by Warner Bros. at last year's DC FanDome. Jordan will be producing the film based on the beloved superhero Virgil Hawkins, also known as Static Shock. While Jordan will not be staring as the titular hero, there is a chance he could appear in a supporting role. There has been no official word on casting, but it has been rumored Jaden Smith will appear in the lead role, considering Virgil is a teenage hero like Spider-Man. While the character has appeared in several animated series, this will be his feature film debut.

Now, per Collider, Michael B. Jordan himself has an update regarding the Static Shock movie. While the project does not yet have a director or any cast members attached, it does have a writer in Randy McKinnon who is currently working on a first draft of the script. Though McKinnon has written for a few television series like Chambers and Grand Army, this will be his first blockbuster feature. Read what Jordan had to say about the progress of Static Shock's script:

Right now we have a writer, Randy McKinnon, who's putting together take and a draft right now, really excited ... I mean, again, as a kid growing up, watching Static Shock, it was something that inspired me. And had that type of representation at a young age, it was really important to me. And I know it would be important to a lot of other kids today. So to be able to adapt the live-action version of that, I'm really, really excited about. So no real timelines, and I guess no real updates or anything like that. But we're in the process of building that out. And I can't wait to have something more to tell you guys later.

Since Static Shock was originally created in 1993 in an effort to increase Black representation in superhero comics, it is no surprise the film adaptation has already brought on a bunch of Black talent in Jordan, Randy McKinnon, and possibly Reginald Hudlin as a producer. Jordan is currently one of Hollywood's busiest stars as he stars in the possible franchise-starter Without Remorse, is currently filming a drama directed by Denzel Washington, and preparing to make his directorial debut with Creed 3. His making time for Static Shock clearly signifies it is a passion project for him.

As a self-professed comic book fan, it does not appear Jordan will be finished with the superhero genre anytime soon. Jordan also recently responded to rumors regarding him playing Superman in the upcoming reboot from producer J.J. Abrams. While Jordan's future as Kal-El is uncertain, he will be producing the upcoming adaptation of Static Shock. The next step for Jordan will be to find a director, and of course, a lead star.
