Video streaming platform iQiyi, Finas launch anti-piracy campaign

Video streaming platform iQiyi has launched a new anti-piracy campaign, together with the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas).

The campaign, dubbed #JanganTontonHaram, is a month-long programme that aims to create a public movement against content theft and digital piracy.

"Digital piracy causes the local creative industry an estimated RM3bil in revenue and the government RM157mil in tax revenue every year.

"The sector is paradoxically seeing content development and movie launches being deeply affected by the pandemic’s physical safety measures, while content streaming has become increasingly popular due to lockdowns," iQiyi said in a statement Friday (April 9).

Country Manager for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, Dinesh Ratnam said that the campaign would put consumers at the forefront.

"By putting consumers at the centre of the anti-piracy movement, we hope to disrupt piracy where it hurts the most - the demand and consumption side. Ethical digital behaviours is a game-changer for the entertainment industry, this is 'the power of consumer clicks'," he said.

He added that consumers who reported sites streaming pirated content would be rewarded as well.

Dinesh said that by using the hashtag #HelloPoliceiQ at any pirated link, users would be given a free iQiyi VIP account once validated.

Lucky draws would also be held based on the number of links reported.

The campaign also saw the launch of www.jangantontonharam.com, which hosts videos on the impact of content piracy.

Avoid unnecessary posts such as 'Thank you', 'Welcome', etc. Such posts will be deleted and user will be warned if it happens again. If caught spamming, the following actions are applicable -

• First time - Warning
• Second time - 5000 Points will be deducted
• Third time - Ban for 7 days
• Fourth time - Permanent Ban
