James Gunn has the perfect comeback to a fan on Twitter asking for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 casting news. Now that all of his work is finished on the DCEU film, The Suicide Squad, Gunn will be pivoting back to the MCU for a third Guardians of the Galaxy, which he says will be his last in the series. After old tweets of Gunn’s surfaced in July of 2018, which many considered to be offensive, he was subsequently fired by Disney. A few months later, he was brought back on to direct the threequel after an outpouring of support from fans and Guardians cast members, namely Dave Bautista.

On Monday, Marvel dropped a momentous montage of its upcoming Phase 4 movies which confirmed release dates, titles, and aired new footage. With a release date of May 5th, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be Marvel’s second film to debut in the year 2023. Right now, not much is known about the plot. Since Thor joined the Guardians at the end of Avengers: Endgame, he will likely factor into the film. It is already known the Guardians will be appearing in Thor’s fourth solo outing, so there is a chance the God of Thunder could crossover as well.

On Twitter, a fan itching for some casting news reached out to Gunn directly and he shot back with the perfect response. While Gunn was responding to a fan asking if he was stressed out about Guardian’s release date, another fan chimed in and asked when there would be casting news. Gunn responded with the usual suspects: Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Karen Gillan as Nebula, and Sean Gunn as Kraglin, which all just happen to be reprisals from the previous film. Check out the full interaction below:

Notice that Gunn did not mention Zoe Saldana’s Gamora, whose role in the next film remains a mystery. Considering the events of Avengers: Endgame, Peter's search for the 2014 version of Gamora will likely be a focal point in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn also did not mention either Bradley Cooper or Vin Diesel, but that probably is not a sign that they won't be returning to voice Rocket and Groot respectively.

Gunn also did not mention Vol. 2’s villain, Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki), despite saying in 2017 she would be back for Vol. 3. But as of right now, not much else is known about the cast beyond the regulars Gunn mentioned in his tweet. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 set to begin filming this year, there will likely be some real casting news very soon.
