The K-Pop band, Stray Kids, performed an epic Deadpool-inspired act, catching the attention of Ryan Reynolds who responded back in typical Deadpool fashion. Deadpool premiered in 2016 and its edgy humor, superhero action, and fourth wall breaking made it an instant hit. The success of the first film led to the release of Deadpool 2 in 2018, which also performed strongly with the much anticipated introduction of Cable, portrayed by Josh Brolin. Now, there is talk of a Deadpool 3 in the works, though an exact release date has not yet been revealed.

The Deadpool films have strongly propelled Reynolds into the spotlight for his stellar performance as the Merc with a Mouth. Prior to his role as Deadpool, Reynolds was most well known for his appearance in various comedies such as The Proposal and Just Friends. However, after his Deadpool role, Reynolds became a favorite both on and off the screen, as fans raved over his acting skills, his wry humor, and his high-profile relationship with Blake Lively. Even five years after the original film, fans and artists alike are finding ways to incorporate the iconic movie into their art, and Reynolds is loving it.

The South Korean boy-band, Stray Kids, caught Reynolds attention when they gave a Deadpool-inspired performance on Kingdom: Legendary War (via Mnet K-POP). The performance combined their hit song "God's Menu" with BLACKPINK's "DDU-DU DDU-DU" and opened up with the lead singer, Felix, donning a Deadpool mask and re-enacting an iconic Deadpool scene. The rest of the performance has minor references to Deadpool spread throughout with firearms, samurai swords, and comic-booked themed graphics. In typical Deadpool fashion, Reynolds responded to the performance on Twitter stating, "Oh hello @Stray_Kids." Check out the performance and Reynolds response below:

The performance quickly caught the attention of Deadpool fans on social media, who immediately began to create mash-ups combining Deadpool scenes with snippets of Stray Kids' performance. On one of these mash-ups, Reynolds posted the comment with his Deadpool quote, tagging the Stray Kids. Quickly, Reynolds started trending on Twitter as the performance gained more recognition and as fans raved over his support of the Stray Kids. The ensuing Twitter frenzy was a mixture of fans complimenting the K-Pop performance, discussing their discovery of Stray Kids through Reynolds, and imagining the band members' reaction when Reynolds noticed them.

Stray Kids' performance was unique and artistic and should give them an edge in the K-Pop reality show competition. Their performance is a prime example of the many unique and amazing ways that fans find to incorporate their favorite films and shows into their own art. It was heartwarming to see Reynolds acknowledging the band's performance and responding with his own little Deadpool quote, as it was a connotation of a shared love of Marvel's Deadpool between them and an acknowledgement of respect for one another. It is encouraging to see a celebrity who isn't too busy to shoutout the work of other artists and it is also awe-inspiring for of all us pop culture fans out there, that one can turn their passion and love of a film franchise into a beautiful expression of art.
