Marvel president Kevin Feige teased the future MCU appearances of characters from Black Widow. Although the film is set to be Natasha Romanoff's swan song in the long-running franchise, Black Widow will take time to introduce several other characters key to the super assassin's past. Among those are Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova, who is already slated to appear in Hawkeye later this year. Additionally, David Harbour stars as Alexei Shostakov AKA Red Guardian, Russia's Super Soldier answer to Captain America. Rachel Weisz will also star as Melina Vostokoff. Harbour and Weisz's characters will make up the father and mother figures from Natasha's past, while Yelena is like a sister to her.

O.T. Fagbenle and Ray Winstone round out the cast, but their characters are shrouded in mystery. Despite the fact that Black Widow takes place in the past, between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, it will play an integral role in Phase 4 of the MCU. How that plays out remains a mystery, as Marvel is not only tight-lipped about the plot of Black Widow, but also the future of the franchise, as the groundwork continues to be laid for upcoming projects both on Disney+ and in theaters.

Still, Feige took some time to hint at this future in a new Black Widow featurette from Marvel. Various stars of the film hint at the groundwork that is being laid in the upcoming film, including Pugh. It's Feige's comment, though, that lays it all bare. He says, "You will look at the past again in a new light and we are sowing the seeds of new characters into the future of the MCU." Feige did not clarify which characters he was referring to in the brief video.

Notably, Feige says "characters," indicating that more than one person from Black Widow will be appearing in future MCU projects. Yelena Belova is a given thanks to confirmation surrounding her Hawkeye appearance. Similarly, it seems that Julia Louis Dreyfus' Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who first appeared in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, will likely be seen again beyond the film. Dreyfus was originally meant to appear in Black Widow first, but schedule shifts due to the pandemic prompted her to debut in the Disney+ series before making a cameo on the theatrical side of things.

Besides those two, there are a number of candidates that could potentially appear in the future. The fate of Taskmaster is unknown, as is the identity of the person behind the mask, meaning they could certainly be appearing again sometime in the future if they make it out of the film alive. Similarly, it seems like Harbour's Red Guardian is a prime candidate to appear again thanks to his Super Soldier abilities and his potential as an antithesis to the new Captain America. Only time will tell just who from Black Widow will be popping up again, and even the film itself may not provide all the answers. As Phase 4 continues full steam ahead, though, all will be revealed in due time.
