Henry Cavill, the actor who portrays Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix series The Witcher, ended a recent interview with a reference to Warhammer 40k. The highly-acclaimed Witcher franchise began as a series of novels from Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski before being adapted as a video game trilogy by CD Projekt Red. Warhammer 40k, meanwhile, is a popular miniature wargame from Games Workshop which has also spawned a number of spin-offs and adaptations.

Netflix and CD Projekt Red recently collaborated to create WitcherCon, the first-ever streaming event focused entirely on the Witcher franchise. During the stream it was revealed that the upcoming The Witcher 3 upgrade will include Netflix series-inspired items. This enhanced version of The Wild Hunt, taking advantage of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S hardware, will feature new items such as armor inspired by the live-action show. The digital WitcherCon event focused on the live-action series and the video game trilogy in equal measure, with this news acting as a perfect crossover between the two mediums. Actor Henry Cavill, known for portraying The Witcher protagonist Geralt of Rivia alongside other iconic roles such as Superman, was also present at the event. During an interview it was revealed that Cavill plays The Witcher 3 on a GTX 3090-powered computer.

To conclude his WitcherCon interview, posted to Netflix's YouTube channel as part of the full event, Henry Cavill made reference to Games Workshop's Warhammer 40k. After a lengthy interview, during which he demonstrated a deep love and understanding of the Witcher franchise, the actor revealed that he had been dying to address something from the Witcher set. Cavill draws attention to the fact that a chandelier from the show's set resembles a Blackstone Fortress. These massive alien warships act as fortresses for Warhammer 40k factions such as the Imperium of Man and the Forces of Chaos.

Warhammer 40k is perhaps the most popular miniature wargame in the world, so it is likely that many fans were able to understand Henry Cavill's reference. Like the Witcher novels, Warhammer 40k has also made a successful transition into the world of video games. A current flood of Warhammer-branded games has exposed a whole new audience to the violent sci-fi fantasy setting, although many fans fear that this influx of games is putting a focus on quantity rather than quality.

Netflix's Witcher series is regarded as a faithful adaptation by fans of both Andrzej Sapkowski's novels and CD Projekt Red's video games. Henry Cavill, in particular, is abundantly qualified to portray the show's protagonist due to a familiarity with the source material and a general love for the fantasy genre. His Warhammer 40k reference surely reached many fans of the fantasy genre, and it reflects the respect with which he treats the Witcher series in general.
