Persona 6 Possibly Teased By Developer Atlus

There's heavy speculation that Persona 6 is going to be announced by Atlus soon, and the developer is only fueling that fire with some slight teases. Although nothing has been confirmed, a bunch of fans are speculating that Persona 6 will be announced during some festivities for the franchise's upcoming 25th anniversary.

Atlus recently announced a 25th anniversary celebration of Persona for September. The company didn't go too deep into the specifics, but it did hint that seven new projects related to the series are in the works. Of course, Persona is not just a video game franchise, it's a multi-media affair with animated shows, toys, and more. Even in gaming, Atlus has published numerous spin-offs of its flagship IP. That said, many are hoping that one of the several projects referenced will turn out to be Persona 6.

Some images released by Atlus (spotted by Polygon) featured a history of some of the Persona games that have been released, but also included two blank mystery images after them, marked "Secret." As already noted, there are plenty of Persona spinoff games, but it seems possible that at least one of the two games could pan out to be Persona 6. As for the other mystery game, it could be another spinoff or a port of Persona 5 for Xbox, something that's been rumored in the past.

The timing for a Persona 6 reveal makes sense, as it's been five years since the last entry. 2021 seems like a milestone anniversary that would suit a new mainline entry's debut well. Of course, there's no official guarantee that Persona 6 will be shown in September, but a full standard development cycle and a major franchise birthday seems like the perfect time for Atlus to make its next big move. That said, it would still be wise for fans to temper their expectations, anyway. Games have been delayed left and right over the past year, and Atlus and Persona aren't immune to the same issues that other developers have experienced with their own games.

Another highly anticipated release is the fabled Persona 5 Nintendo Switch port, so there's a chance that could also finally come to fruition. For now, though, Atlus is keeping all of its cards close to its chest. It wouldn't be shocking if things start to trickle out much closer to the actual event in September, as retailer pre-order listings could likely tell the tale ahead of time. Whether or not 2021 is Persona 6's year remains to be seen, and the wait will have to continue for now.
