The Pokémon Company has unveiled the new Pikachu cards for the Pokémon Trading Card Game that will be released as part of the franchise’s 25th anniversary celebration set. The Pokémon franchise is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary, and one of the card sets that is set to release this year is the 25th Anniversary Collection, which includes at least 28 cards. There will also be another set of 25 reprinted cards from older sets that will be released as 25th Anniversary Promo Card Packs. One of the Pokémon cards that will be included in the reprints is the famed Charizard card from Pokémon’s base set.

The popularity of the Pokémon Trading Card Game has risen quite a bit in recent years and has helped highlight the many content creators that not only focus on the trading card game but also the Pokémon franchise as a whole. One such Pokémon-focused content creator recently found themselves the owner of a so-called “God Box,” which is a box of 36 card packs that each contain one rare holographic Pokémon card. The chance of pulling a holographic card from a pack is pretty low so getting a box of packs that all had one is definitely surprising and was apparently due to a printing error.

A new report by Pokémon fan website Serebii.net showed off some of the new Pikachu cards that have been revealed in Japan to be part of Pokémon's 25th Anniversary Collection. The cards include a new Base Pikachu with full art, a Surfing Pikachu V, Surfing Pikachu VMAX, Flying Pikachu V, Flying Pikachu VMAX, and the Pikachu V-UNION card set. Like other V-UNION Pokémon cards, the Pikachu V-UNION set requires players to have all four cards of the set in their discard pile to play it. The art used for the Pikachu V-UNION card set shows 25 different Pikachu variations illustrated by 25 different artists from across the Pokémon TCG, making it a very good-looking and collectible card.

One more Pikachu card is also set to be included in the aforementioned 25 Pokémon cards that will be part of the 25th Anniversary Promo Card Packs, specifically the popular Birthday Pikachu card. This gives Pikachu card collectors one more card to look for when both the 25th Anniversary Collection set and Promo Card Packs are released and become available on October 22 in Pokémon Centers in Japan.

It’s unclear whether the Promo Card Packs, which include both the Charizard and Birthday Pikachu reprints, will be released outside of Japan. Thankfully, the six new cards in the 25th Anniversary Collection are expected to be available as part of the previously announced Celebrations set that will be released globally. Hopefully the Promo Card Packs make it outside of Japan, but if they don’t, it wouldn’t be the first time that a Pokémon product was made exclusive to Pokémon Centers in Japan.
