Coraline and ParaNorman are returning to movie theaters this fall. The dark animated stop-motion films exist in an exclusive pantheon of the family horror genre. Coraline (2009) was directed and written by Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach), stemming from a novella by author Neil Gaiman. Meanwhile, ParaNorman (2012) was directed by Sam Fell and Chris Butler and was the first movie to use full-color 3D printers for animation.

Fathom Events in partnership with entertainment companies LAIKA, Shout! Factory, and Park Circus confirmed that the creepy duo will once again hit the big screen. The special return exists to celebrate the 15th anniversary of LAIKA Studios. Both flicks will be presented with bonus behind-the-scenes content to give dedicated fans a look into the creative processes.

Coraline creeps back into theaters on August 24, while ParaNorman is slated for a November 16 screening. Despite being one-day events, both films will have two screening times. Fans can secure their seats for Coraline as early as July 16 and for ParaNorman starting August 13 at Fathom Events. A complete list of participating theaters is currently listed on the company's website.

Giving Coraline and ParaNorman a limited return theater engagement is a smart move for the studio. Both films earned critical acclaim upon release and have only grown in popularity since premiering. Bringing box office smashes back to theaters is hardly revolutionary but is definitely a lucrative venture. However, it seems like an odd choice not to have these two spine-tingling stories run during the Halloween season.
