Mass Effect: Legendary Edition has arrived, giving old and new fans alike a chance to dive into BioWare's classic RPG. The remastered version of the Mass Effect trilogy offers improved graphics and controls, as well as most of the original DLC and expansions.

There are twelve major DLCs included in Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, but not all of them are equally good. While most Mass Effect fans will want to try every DLC to get the complete story, there are three that no player should miss out on experiencing.

Mass Effect 2: Lair Of The Shadow Broker

The first unmissable Mass Effect DLC included in Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is Lair of the Shadow Broker. Players will be able to start it during their playthrough of Mass Effect 2, after speaking with Liara T'Soni on Ilium.

The Shadow Broker is frequently referenced in the first two Mass Effect campaigns, but players don't get a chance to encounter them face-to-face until Lair of the Shadow Broker. As a ruthless information trader, the Shadow Broker is an enigmatic figure who hides their own identity while selling sensitive intel to the highest bidder.

While helping Liara to hunt this mysterious individual down, players will get to experience a diverse collection of missions. These include a CSI-style investigation, a hovercar chase, and the climatic invasion of the Shadow Broker's lair. The Shadow Broker also has detailed files on many of Mass Effect's characters, meaning players can discover a lot about their favorites by the end of the DLC.

Mass Effect 3: Leviathan

Although the From the Ashes DLC is a contender, there's probably no better DLC for diving into Mass Effect lore than Mass Effect 3: Leviathan. This DLC, which players can begin after Priority: Palaven, focuses on the origins of the Reapers. Following the work of a Dr. Bryson, Shepard and the crew of the Normandy will chase clues that lead to them discovering the true story of the series' main antagonists.

There are a few different mission types and mini-games in the Mass Effect 3: Leviathan DLC. These include a puzzle to piece together Dr. Bryson's notes, a section in which Shepard guides a repair drone, and a diving trip in a submersible mech.

Mass Effect 3: Citadel

The final best choice on a Mass Effect DLC list is Mass Effect 3: Citadel, an extended love letter to the series as a whole. The premise is that the Normandy crew are on shore leave, though an attempt on Shepard's life leads to this break being not all rest and relaxation.

Mass Effect 3: Citadel boasts a significant amount of content, more than any other Mass Effect DLC. Players will divide their time evenly between the action-packed story that kicks off with the attempt on Shepard's life, and some fan service with all the best Mass Effect characters.

A large part of the Citadel DLC is a new hub area where players can interact with former and current Mass Effect companions. This all culminates in a huge party at Shepard's apartment, where players can see squad mates from across the series interacting in a unique social setting. Whether it be a drunken Grunt sitting in the broken shower or Joker's wild stories at the Citadel bar, Mass Effect: Citadel is a fitting send-off for the legendary series.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
