A recent piece of fan art has imagined Tom Holland’s Spider-Man coming face-to-face with the DCEU’s Wonder Woman. Holland, who first joined the MCU in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War is due to return for his third solo outing in this year’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. In addition to Holland’s previous castmates Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, the upcoming threequel will also star Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock and Jamie Foxx’s Electro.

With the Disney+ Loki series finale opening the MCU up to the infinite possibilities of the Marvel Multiverse, No Way Home is predicted to be the MCU’s first major look at the effects of alternate realities beginning to collide before next year’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Not only are villains from previous iterations of the Spider-Man franchise confirmed to be making an appearance, but the potential appearance of multiple Spideys has also long been rumored as an unconfirmed plot point for the film. While former Spider-Men Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire have continually denied their involvement, fans theories concerning their appearance are still circulating despite Marvel and Sony’s best attempts to shoot them down.

Now renowned fan artist Bosslogic has taken the multiverse theory one step further, conjuring a collision between the rival MCU and DCEU universes. Showing Holland’s Spider-Man holding Wonder Woman’s shield, a direct reference to his theft of Captain America’s shield in Civil War, the image is captioned “I think I may have taken the wrong portal”.

As unlikely as it seems at this point, the idea of an eventual MCU and DCEU crossover film is not entirely without merit. Marvel and DC crossover events have taken place multiple times in the comics, and Spider-Man was the first-ever Marvel character to meet a DC hero in 1976’s Superman vs The Amazing Spider-Man. Since then, the two comic houses have seen multiple crossovers including Batman vs The Incredible Hulk, Uncanny X-Men and the New Teen Titans and the JLA/Avengers just to name a few.

With both the MCU and the DCEU moving to embrace concepts of the multiverse, perhaps somewhere down the line viewers may get to finally see a Marvel and DC crossover project on the big screen. While such an undertaking would require an unprecedented level of negotiation and agreement between Marvel Studios and Warner Bros., Marvel has already proven that it has been able to work with other studios such as Sony to bring their films to life. In the meantime, Marvel fans will just have to be content to see what the Marvel Multiverse has to throw at their favorite neighborhood Spider-Man in No Way Home.
