EA's reveal trailer for the Dead Space remake may be quite sparse on details, but some fans have noticed a hidden reference to the game's original creator, Glen Schofield. Schofield was a producer on the first Dead Space game but is credited as having created the series alongside Visceral Games colleague Michael Condrey. Although the two left the studio a few years later to found Sledgehammer Games, their work has not been forgotten by EA Motive.

After Dead Space, Visceral Games continued the franchise without Schofield for two more games. Schofield went on to co-direct three Call of Duty games over nearly a decade before splitting off from Condrey and Activision. Now, the acclaimed game creator is working on a sci-fi horror game similar to Dead Space called The Callisto Protocol. Not much is known about the game, but Schofield has acknowledged the game will play into his roots and is also based within the PUBG universe.

That said, EA Motive gave Schofield a shoutout in the trailer for Dead Space (via Max Zareckiy). During the trailer, the words "Schofield Tools" can be seen as some sort of in-universe manufacture of Isaac's iconic plasma cutter. It's a fun way to pay tribute to the creator of the beloved trilogy and Schofield even took to Twitter to say he's excited about the game. “Directing the original Dead Space was one of the highlights of my career," he said. "Excited to see what the [EA Motive] team does with it!” The Motive team replied back saying it was looking forward to his game and appreciated his contributions to the series.

With the Dead Space remake on the way, it's probably safe to assume that EA is investing in the franchise's future. Although nothing has been confirmed, it seems unlikely EA would've ignored it for so long only to revisit it for one single game. As horror games continue to be more successful and single-player games are standing tall, now is the perfect time for the series to reemerge. Only time will tell if EA Motive can live up to what Schofield and the Visceral Games team created, but it is an incredibly capable studio in its own right.

As of right now, there are very few details regarding the game. EA did confirm that the Dead Space remake will "improve" the story, characters, and gameplay, though the publisher didn't fully elaborate on what that meant. No matter, it seems like EA Motive wants to respect the franchise's legacy, so hopefully, it will be respectful to the origins of the original story for Dead Space while expanding on it.
